Gia's Story

Gia Maynard always had a wild streak. She doesn’t mind bending the rules, except when it comes to the rules of her heart. She doesn’t do relationships, instead she devotes her time to her true love....dancing. That is until Jasper Campbell comes along. Handsome, rich and powerful, Gia becomes totally enthralled with him until she finds herself slowly turning into someone she no longer knows.

Cam Hamilton has always been like a big brother to Gia. Now one of the hottest baseball players in the Major League, he is known for his moves on and off the field. But no matter how many women he has in his life, Gia will always be his number one.

When Gia’s heart is broken into pieces, Cam is right there to help her put it back together. When they both give in to their feelings for each other, will they be able to pretend that certain lines were never crossed, and certain feelings were never felt? Will Gia follow the rules that she has lived by for her entire life or is Cam the one worth breaking all of them for?

*This is not a stand-alone. This is book 3 in the Three of Hearts series.

"Oh, come on, Cam, we can’t all be famous baseball players like you." He shook his head and flashed me that grin again. "So tell me, are they real?"

"What?" he creased his forehead, looking totally confused.
"Willow Asher's boobs."
"Only you, Gia!" He chuckled.
"Well, seriously. I mean, no one can be that beautiful naturally. Please tell me all those photos I see of her in magazines are photo-shopped."
"I don't know, but I think you're a natural beauty."
"Ahh, you’re so sweet, and a very good liar."
"Hey now, I'm not lying. I do."
"Well, thank you, Cam, but compared to her, I'm a rag doll."
He rolled his eyes. "So, how's ‘what's his face’ doing? Are you still seeing him?"
"What's his face? You mean, Jasper?" I giggled. "Yeah I am, and he's doing good. Wish he was here....but whatever."
"Well, where is he?"
"Tokyo." He nodded and looked straight ahead. "He was supposed to have come but was called away on business at the last minute. No biggie. I'm kinda used to it." I let out a deep sigh.
"Well, he must be pretty special, this is a record for you." He smirked.
"Look who's talking? Who is your flavor of the month? Let’s see, is it an exotic super model, or an Oscar winning actress?” I giggled.
"Don't have one this month." He laughed.
I held my hand over my heart. "Wow.....that's a shocker!"
"Keep it up, funny girl."
The light moment that had just passed between us made me realize once again just how different my life was from my ‘put together’ twin sister. "Carrie and Jason, they look so happy." I stared straight ahead.
"Don't sound so down. It's a good thing."
"Oh, I'm not. It's just sometimes, I wonder if I'm normal."
"What do you mean?"
"I can't ever imagine myself settling down and doing the whole marriage and baby thing. I mean, what’s wrong with me? It totally goes against the female DNA, doesn't it?"
"Nah. It's just not what you want out of life right now. Who knows, maybe someday you’ll change your mind."
"Doubt it, but whatever."
"Maybe What's his face -"
"J-a-s-p-e-r!" I laughed.
"Yeah, him." He laughed back. "Maybe he's the one that will make you change your mind."

Gia and Cam a have been friends all of their lives since their moms are best friends. Cam is a popular, wealthy, pro baseball player in California. Gia is living in New York chasing her dreams of becoming a dancer but she is overworked and struggling. She's lost herself in a man...one who has the potential to make her dreams come true or could alternately destroy her. But she is losing herself trying to be the women he wants. Cam has lost himself in the fame, limelight, and rumor mill. But they are each other's safety net and they can just be themselves when they are together.

Gia has always been the wilder one in relation to her sweet twin sister. She is tough, funny, and kind of a hot mess. She works hard as a dancer, dance teacher, and bartender to make ends meet. She wants to be independent and not have to rely on a man. She does not see marriage or kids in her future.

Cam has everything he could ever want in his career, fame and money.  But Gia is his reality check...the girl who knows the real him and keeps him grounded. And he has been her best friend, secret crush, and big brother figure and all along he has been her rock.

When Gia really needs Cam, he is there. He is thoughtful, protective, and supportive. And the closer in proximity they are, the harder it is to avoid the fact that they may be feeling more than just friendly. I really loved the two of them together. But considering they were usually great at talking together, when it came to communicating about feelings or plans they often had communication breakdowns. Crossing that line between friendship and more is precarious at best, especially when their lives seem to be moving in opposite directions. And there are complications and  issues that not only could ruin their chance of ever being together, but have the potential to ruin their lifelong friendship.

This brings back all of the characters from the previous books to both taunt, tease, and support each other. They are a tight knit group of family and friends. I enjoyed seeing the progression in all of their lives. I liked getting both Gia and Cam's points of view in this one to truly understand their feelings.

This is Gia's story of heartbreak, loss, friendship, love, family and chasing her dreams. It's about priorities, sacrifice, choices, and realizing plans and dreams can be fluid and not set in stone. It had the same feel as the other books with humor and charming characters, but also had some unexpected emotional situations as well.

This is the third and final book in the Three of a Kind series. Gia is the last of the Maynard women left single now that her twin sister is getting married to the love of her life. But while Carrie has always had things put together and figured out, Gia has always been the wild one, the dreamer.

Cam has known Gia all her life, but knows he isn’t what she is looking for. When she looks at him, she still sees the Cam he was before he became a famous baseball player; she sees him. But she thinks she loves Jasper, the older, rich businessman who has swept her off her feet. As long as she is happy, Cam is content to let her be happy, but something still doesn’t feel right to him.

These two were hard to figure out. Once again, the main characters in this series spend much of the time in a relationship with someone else. While everyone around them can see what they feel for each other, Cam and Gia remain blind to the other’s feelings. But I have always loved the way Cam drops everything to be there to support his Gia, the same way Gia is there for him. Though they may not recognize the depth of their feelings, it is clear to all around them.

I was surprised by a couple aspects of this storyline. I was not expecting the journey Cam and Gia had to take to find each other, and at times I was frustrated with their actions and giddy with excitement.

There were a lot more secrets in this book than the others, or at least it felt that way. Whether it was because Cam and Gia had always been able to see through each other, or because their actions really did need to be kept from their families, there was a lot of hiding the truth -- from their moms, and Carrie and Jason.

This was a great way to wrap up this series. With those final scenes, the closure I was hoping for from all three Maynard women was clear and all three were in places in their lives that they had worked hard to achieve.

Two of Hearts (Three of a Kind #2)

Carrie's Story

Carrie Maynard has come a long way from the awkward teenager who sat in front of the most popular boy in calculus class. She’s now a young, independent woman with a great job, a loving boyfriend, and a close knit family. But something still seems to missing.

Jason Wilder is no longer the cute teenage boy that Carrie crushed on from high school. He is now a hardworking, handsome man and one of Carrie’s very best friends. He is the perfect guy just looking for his perfect girl. Uncertain that he’s actually found her in his girlfriend, Ashley, he goes through the motions, hoping she will fill the void Carrie has left in his heart, ever since the day they met back in high school.

When circumstances change and feelings can no longer be ignored, will Carrie continue to sit on the sidelines, watching someone else live out the future with the boy she loved from so long ago, or will she take the next step with the man that’s always owned her heart?

Sometimes taking a risk for love isn’t always easy.
Sometimes even the strongest of friendships are put to the test.
And….
Sometimes it’s easier to walk away when life takes us down a different path than the one our heart intended.
Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed Creative Writing. There was always something about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen - or in today's world a touch of the keyboard. I am the author of The Exception To The Rule, An Unplanned Lesson, An Unplanned Life Drowning In Love, A Cry for Hope, A Will To Change, Blind Side of Love, When The Chips Are Down and Easy Silence.

My life is not as interesting as my books or the characters in them, but then again whose life is? I'm a mom of twin teenage boys, a crazy Border Collie and a cat with an identity crisis! I guess you can say writing is my form of Calgon!
