“We both want this so badly. I can feel it resonating between us like the hot pull of our first attraction, tangible and intense.”

After lies and betrayal almost destroy their marriage, Dean and Olivia West reignite their blissful passion. The medieval history professor and his lovely wife are determined to fix their mistakes, and Liv’s unexpected pregnancy intensifies their desire to fall madly in love all over again.

Then a family crisis forces Dean back into a feud with his parents and siblings, dredging up guilt over a painful family secret. Dean fights to shield Liv from the hostility, but for the first time, Liv resists her white knight’s defense. Her newfound resolve clashes with Dean’s desperate need to protect her.

Liv and Dean have battled obstacles together before, but bitter family conflicts now endanger their fragile intimacy. And when Dean’s career is suddenly threatened, he and Liv must struggle with events that could damage them in ways they had never imagined.

"Our relationship, our love, cannot and will never be perfect. It will, however, always belong only to us in all its flawed, intense beauty. Perfect in its very imperfection."

Damn you Nina Lane (and I say this with respect), you made me cry!! I thought yes, I made it without shedding a single tear (when I reached around 70%) and then you snuck up on me and made me bawl big fat baby tears, AGAIN! Nina's writing is so captivating, her words flow beautifully off the pages entwining the past and present flawlessly. Each page, each word takes you on an emotional journey that will one-minute leave you heart broken and mend it within the next.

Dean and Liv, their journey, wow their story is so dang INTENSE. Their issues are so real, their characters so well developed that you become lost in their world, forgetting that what you are reading is "termed" fiction. Allure was written as well if not better than Arouse. Arouse was full of emotional drama, a train wreck just waiting to happen with lies, secrets and betrayals. I never knew which road they would take, but I just knew in my gut that there was no turning back, no real way to erase the pain and the mistakes. Compared to Arouse, Allure is the eye of the storm, a quieter read, but it packed no less of a punch.

"I've spent the last weeks craving exactly this--the press of my husband's powerful body against mine, the full weight of him on top of me. I've longed for him to take me, reclaim me, promise me I will always be his. I've been desperate to surrender to him again."

Allure gives us glimpses of Dean and Oliva reconciling, trying to mend their hearts and move forward with rebuilding their marriage. It's a story that centers on the aftermath. The second installment of their journey had me falling in love all over again with Dean and Olivia. The all-consuming emotional and physical chemistry between these two characters left me breathless and aching for more.

Dean, oh Dean, do you not learn? Yes, he definitely had me shaking my head a few times. If it was not after midnight, I think I would have screamed just a bit with frustration. Don't get me wrong I ADORED Dean (not to mention he is BEYOND HOT), I think even more in this book than Arouse. His need to protect is just so alpha; a natural part of him. Especially when it comes to Liv. I honestly don't think he can help his self; it is almost like second nature to him when it comes to his wife, his soul. Dean's struggle with Liv’s wishes goes against everything he knows, every instinct he has. I actually hurt for Dean while I read his point of view, it was so hard watching such a strong man teeter. Everything he knew was shaken and rocked upside down(in more than just his marriage) and he just couldn't seem to find that solid ground. I think Dean seemed more broken and lost in this chapter of his life.

"Your family all comes to you to fix things, right? I don't want you to do the same thing with me."

Liv impressed me the most. Her character really grew on me. Olivia's NEED to be independent and not sheltered really shines through. I found myself smiling so many times, as I watched her step back and reevaluate. Our heroine no longer felt lost, in fact for me it seemed as though she was discovering exactly who she is.  Her decisions were based on what she felt was best for not just herself but for Dean also (even if he didn't fully agree with her decisions). It was refreshing to see her maneuver through this new outlook she has on life, and it was a bit heart wrenching when she realized that everything she became as a person and everything she owned revolved around her husband. Liv, wanted Dean to know that she wasn't this fragile little butterfly that needed to be protected, in so many different ways she not just asked him but told him to let her spread her wings and fly.

Now, Nina, this is where you broke my heart and mended it all within the same moment! That ending, oh man that ending was so bitter sweet. I need you to tell me Awaken will be in my hands soon, as in yesterday soon. I can only imagine what you have in store for us, as well as our hero and heroine.

If you have not read this series than I STRONGLY recommend you move it straight to the top of your to be read pile!

Thank you Nina Lane for providing me with the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Allure for my honest opinion.

  1. Tammy, wow! What an amazing review of Allure, thank you so much for it and for participating in the blog tour. I am so happy you loved Liv's growing strength and self-reliance -- definitely a journey for her, but one that will make her the person she wants to be. And Dean will learn his lessons too. I'm working on Awaken right now and will hopefully have a more specific publication date soon. Thanks again so much!
