Sabrina Chandler must go back home to face her past and confront her once best friend and ex-boyfriend who betrayed her in the worst way possible.

Returning to her past also means coming face to face with the boy who was standing in the shadows one fateful night. The same boy she made a promise to and who unknowingly walked away with her heart.
Can she move forward with her life when her heart is still 10 years in the past?

"I know you and I see you....the real you."

I was drawn into this story immediately. The prologue begins ten years before the main part of the book. Sabrina, finds out her boyfriend and best friend have betrayed her. And the boy that takes care of her that night is the tatted bad boy Tyler who apparently knows more about her than she does about him. They share a few intense moments and then he is gone. But he makes her promise him something.

"Promise me that tomorrow you will dump his sorry ass, cut that bitch out of your life, and try to hold on as best you can until you're out of this shit hole town in a couple of months."
"Promise Me..."
"I Promise."

And she does just that. She moves away, goes to school, finds a wonderful best friend, and makes a career for herself. Her life is good, but not complete. She really has not opened up to anyone to really have a true relationship. Her trust issues and anger from the past stays in the back of her mind keeping her from truly finding happiness. There is another man interested in her but that comes with a whole other set of of complications.

So when the invitation to her ten year reunion comes up, she has to make a decision to face her past or keep hiding from it. She decides she needs to face those that betrayed her, but also wants to see if Tyler is there. He made an impression on her and she wants to find out where he has ended up.

Tyler. Tyler. Tyler. He had such charisma and literally oozed sexuality. It seriously gave me goosebumps. He  is a gentleman and sex-on-a-stick at the same time. He encourages her to stand up for herself, but is also there to protect her. He is everything she imagined over the years. Their chemistry is off the charts. Their connection and rapport is easy. Everything would be perfect. If they did not live across the country from each other.

He has the innate ability to make me feel safe and comfortable in my own skin. How he can do that after all this time, I have no idea, but it also scares the living crap out of me.

"Sabrina, the things I've said to you, I've never said to anyone else. The way I feel when I'm around you,  I've never felt anything like it before. I want to be a part of you...your life, because everything...every little piece of me was always meant to be yours....so, yeah, all that scares the living shit out of me."

Long distance is hard. Trust issues do not just miraculously go away. Past demons lurk around and can feed  insecurities. Everyone makes mistakes.

Will they be able to bridge the distance?
Will Sabrina be willing to truly trust someone and is Tyler trust worthy?

I alternately loved and hated the supporting characters. Her room mate Julia was the best! She is fun, unfiltered, and the friend that pushes her when she needs it, but will kick someone's ass for her too. Her boss Alex had his own brand of charisma and charm. Her parents were real and endearing. But even the villians in this story,  I not only hated them but at the same time kind of felt sorry for them...just a little. The point is that all of the characters were well developed and you felt strongly for them in some way.

Barbie Bohrman's writing style flows so easily, draws you right into the story and Sabrina's mixed up head, makes you feel every insecurity and every emotion effortlessly. There was no stilted dialogue or parts that were unnecessary. The build up to events and the sexual tension had me in high anticipation. And once it got there, I was not disappointed. There were many memorable moments in this book: some that had me swooning, some that made me laugh out loud, some that made me want to do a fist pump, some that made me want to throw my kindle, and some that brought a tear to my eye. A wonderful, heartfelt emotional debut from this author. I am looking forward to more books from her in the future! I would love to see more with the supporting characters Julia and Alex.

Thanks to Barbie Bohrman for providing me an arc in exchange for an honest review.
