Worth the Fight
Vi Keeland
Publication date:  October 3, 2013
Summary:  Standalone, HEA

It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit.  Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life.  A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half.  But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way.  Too many emotions are dangerous.  Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them.  But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common?  A lot more than they bargained for.

"Someday, someone is going to walk into your life and make you realize why it never worked out with anyone else."
Elle seemed to have the perfect life with the perfect lawyer career and perfect handsome, charming lawyer boyfriend, William.

"I never though I'd be happy. I was content with flatlining my way through life. It was good enough."

One meeting with Mixed Martial Arts hottie Nico Hunter shakes it all up. He is charismatic, hella sexy, and they have an instant connection. Oh my, I loved Nico! He was a hot alpha male, but also had a vulnerable, caring and generous side. He had such a presence that it just oozed off the pages. But he also had demons that he could not shake that make him feel unworthy of love. His pain and turmoil was heart breaking.

"Underneath 220 pounds of tattooed hard muscle that screams trouble is the most sensitive and beautiful soul I've ever met."

Nico sets off reactions in Elle that she has never experienced before. They have an undeniable attraction and chemistry. Seriously,  fiery hot chemistry! And they also have an easy going rapport and are compatible in so many ways. But we start to see more of Elle's past and it was not so picture perfect. She has her own traumas that she keeps hidden, but still haunt her and have shaped her choices.

As their relationship heats up, they face more challenges. They both have issues with trust, communication, sharing, and feeling worthy. It is hard to move on together when they are still trying to fix themselves. It was an uphill battle for them. One minute you are swooning, but then the next you are devastated. And she kept up the pace much like they were in their own fight against each other for love, understanding, and forgiveness.

"I'm afraid I'm not good enough for you. That I'll drag you down into the hell that I belong in with me."
"I'm afraid to see the way that you'll look at me...now that you know who I really am."

"When we met, we were two injured souls. Both keeping the real out of our lives for fear of what we might find. But nothing could have kept us apart. I never believed in destiny. Thought that was a bunch of crap for people who read too many books. Until I met you. You're it for me, Babe. I didn't even know I was missing something until I found you, but now I don't know how I got through a day without what you've given me. You're my soul mate. As sappy as it sounds, it's god damn true. Nothing has ever been truer in my life."

Will they stay together or fall apart? Can two broken people make each other whole or will they both shatter beyond repair?

I found Vi Keeland's writing style to be fast paced and engaging, with good flow and story line. I loved her well developed characters and clearly defined points of view of Ell and Nico. They both had such inner turmoil, fears, and insecurities that it was necessary to get both to truly feel all that they were going through. I I devoured every page and was never bored. There was pain, drama, and demons to deal with.  But It was also sweet, romantic, steamy, flirty, emotional, violent,  heartbreaking and  frustrating at times. It was an inspirational story of hope, forgiveness, and love.

The back drop of the MMA fight scene added more intensity in the background and this story line and provided important plot points that that made it even more interesting. I enjoyed the side characters as well including her best friend Regina, her friend and ex William, his fun family, his trainer Preach, and his protege Vinny. I am looking forward to Vinny's story in Worth the Chance in 2014. He already grabbed my heart in this one.

Thanks to Vi Keeland for providing me an arc in exchange for an honest review

Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work.  She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting USA Today Best Selling smut author by night!
