HE SAYS HE’S NO GOOD FOR HER.
SHE HATES THAT HE MIGHT BE RIGHT.
Brook Dumas found Remington Tate in REAL, and now it’s her best friend Melanie’s turn to find the man who makes her heart sing. After years of searching, one night in the rain, the strong and mysterious Greyson King comes to her rescue. He’s bold, and maybe just the lover, friend, and protector she’s been searching for. When they make love, he says her name like it means something. Like she means something—and that’s everything she’s ever wanted.
He disappears for days without a word, and when he’s around, he says he’ll only hurt her. Buy when he’s away, her heart hurts more.
Then Melanie uncovers the dark world he’d been determined to keep hidden, and suspects that their random first meeting might have not been so random after all.
Caught in a free fall of emotions, Melanie has no one to catch her but the man she should be running from. . .
But what do you do when your Prince Charming has gone Rogue?
We met Melanie in Real as she is Brooke's sweet, vivacious best friend. She has watched Brooke and Remy fall in love and now she wants that too. She wants her Prince Charming to fall for her and make her feel special and worthy.
I will never stop living my life, loving my friends, and looking for love. I know with a certainty that when I find him, he will be all that I dreamed he would be, perfect in every way. the perfect man for me.
One night she meets Greyson King. He swoops in, helps her, and rocks her world. She thinks her luck might be changing, but he disappears like any other one night stand from her past.
What she does not know is that Greyson is all mixed up in an underground business. He does things that he is not proud of, but he has his reasons. He is trying to change his situation but has many obstacles. And unfortunately Melanie is more closely connected to that business than she should be.
But their chemistry shook them both up and they have an undeniable pull. He knows he should stay away to protect her, but finds it difficult. She knows he is hiding something, but he is magnetic and draws her back in. But is there any way to get what they both want and have no one get hurt?
This takes you into the dirty, fierce world of gambling, collections, and underground fighting. The darker side of the fighting business that Remy barely touches. Both Greyson and Melanie are harboring secrets, lies and hidden agendas that could destroy them or worse yet endanger them. But they are powerless to stop the raw need, hunger, and connection they feel and grasp at any little pieces they can.
Grey is a bad boy...the ultimate bad boy when it comes to what he does. But for Melanie he just wants to protect her and possess her. He is used to being a robot without entanglements and emotions, and Melanie rips him right open to find his human core. He is intense, possessive, passionate, and determined.
"You are so f***ing mine you don't even know how mine you are."
And Melanie has always been the happy, party girl and good friend. But she has her own problems worrying her. And now she just wants her Prince Charming...even if he is not perfect.
He is the one. The one who's going to wreck me. Hurt me. Demolish me. The one who is going to remove every inch of the girl in me. He will be the one memory I will never forget, and good or bad, he will be THE one I dream of. Except he's all wrong.
But will she still want him if she learns that it is all based on lies?
And when dangerous worlds collide will they be left standing or ripped apart?
"A distraction. You're my f***ing obsession. Not even a fantasy anymore. You're going to be the death of me princess, and I don't give a sh** anymore. I just don't want to be the death of you."
This was raw, violent, intense, passionate, and emotional. I could feel the sexual tension, chemistry, need, and passion. I was totally invested in them as a couple no matter how messed up their situation was. And I felt for Greyson as his vulnerability and humanity was exposed under his dangerous exterior. I just wanted to soothe his battered soul and rough edges and let him feel safe and cared for too. And I wanted Melanie to be strong enough to take him as he was and not how she wanted him to be.
"I'm not your prince, I'm everything you don't want and you still want me. You still need me. Melanie, you've been waiting for me. Let go of the idea of who I should be ..."
It was told in both points of view allowing us all access to their secrets and feelings. There was danger, intrigue, secrets, and suspense all complicating their lives and their undeniable connection only inflamed the situation. It had me on edge, flipping pages, waiting to see how it would all end up. Katy Evans completely rewrote this entire book to make changes to the plot since Greyson ended up being such a strong character. (See her post about her original plot here). And I can honestly say that I could not see how her first plot line would have ever worked because Greyson really was the perfect bad boy anti-hero. His character needed to be the main focus. He just had to be. He was that charismatic, intense, and down right swoon-worthy in the most dark, delicious way. They were both flawed, damaged, and searching for love and redemption, and they just fit for some reason. But the outside influences bearing down on them caused such obstacles and pain. My heart broke for both of them at times and I just hoped that it would be put back together somehow.
Along the way we got to visit some old friends: Brooke, Remy, Racer, Riley, and Pandora from previous books. I always love more time with Remy and Brooke! It was interesting to see more with the angry, bitter goth girl Pandora and we were teased a bit more with her story. I am looking forward to her book Ripped that will also feature a rock star.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story really was Melanie and Greyson’s. While it takes place in the same locations as the previous books, it lives in a bubble. Or maybe it’s that Remy and Brooke are in a bubble? Either way, the roles of Melanie’s friends in this story are background noise to the hurricane that is the relationship between her and Greyson.
Melanie’s optimism, zeal, and enthusiasm was always in contrast to Brooke’s focus. But this? This is the real Melanie. Behind that smile and the sunny disposition, Melanie lives in fear of disappointing those around her, of not living up to the life that is expected of her, and of not finding her own Prince Charming as she watches her best friend find hers. As a side character, I liked Melanie. Now that the focus was on her, I loved her. There is so much more to her than it appeared, and I loved every detail and how those details added to her personality.
Greyson. Zero. By either name, he was dark in a way Remy never reached. Haunted, focused, determined and dangerous, he was everything that Melanie should have run from. His secrets drove a lot of the tension in their relationship, but it was clear that meeting Melanie was a life-changing moment that he struggled with handling.
But despite their very different upbringings and histories, Melanie and Greyson were like two sides of the same coin. They found a connection despite appearing to be so wrong. Even as I cringed watching Greyson and Melanie become closer (because as the story unfolds, we know exactly how Greyson came to find Melanie), I loved watching each of them re-evaluate their desires and future plans based on what they had found in the other.
Pandora. At times I wanted to shake her. Others to kiss her. Her prickly exterior is in such contrast to Melanie’s sunniness that while the dose of reality was sometimes needed, I wanted her to be so much happier for Melanie than she often was. Her story definitely intrigues me.
I have to say, having been a longtime reader of this series, and knowing that this book was rearranged in the series because of an unexpected re-write, I am so glad we had to wait for this specific story. I cannot imagine how Melanie with anyone but Greyson would have worked, their chemistry was that overpowering. They were a mess, they were magnetic, they were polar opposites, but Greyson needed Melanie something fierce, and I am so glad he found her and held on. And boy did it take some hanging on. On both their parts. This was a dark story, full of secrets, pain, and longing, and I loved every moment of it.

Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.
He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .
But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.
I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.
If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?
“I will do anything to make her MINE.” —Remington Tate
In the international bestseller REAL, the unstoppable bad boy of the Underground fighting circuit finally met his match. Hired to keep him in prime condition, Brooke Dumas unleashed a primal desire in Remington “Remy” Tate as vital as the air he breathes . . . and now he can’t live without her.
Brooke never imagined she would end up with the man who is every woman’s dream, but not all dreams end happily ever after, and just when they need each other the most, Brooke is torn away from the ringside. Now with distance and darkness between them, the only thing left is to fight for the love of the man she calls MINE.
Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.
Through it all, there's been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he's ever had to fight for.

Every woman wants me--except the one I sing for.
Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.
But when you love a girl, you don't leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise. Any man with half a brain should know.
So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?
Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.
When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I'm a god--but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl's not happy to see me.
Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that's her -- Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she's out for my blood.
That's alright.
Let her come at me. Because I'm out for her heart and, this time, there's no way she can stop me.
