My brow pinched, because this fucking hurt. Hurt that Shea had been resisting confiding in me because of who I was. A fucking loose cannon. Someone prone to violence. And there it was, right beneath the surface, fire flaming and licking and begging for release.
My voice was tight. “Made you a promise I’d protect you, Shea. Live for you. And that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. You and Kallie? You’re my life. My everything. And I will do anything…give up anything…to make sure you two are together. I won’t let him win.”

But, no.” Her eyes drew together as she refuted the idea, as she spilled her own belief. “He’s a coward. A coward. Someone who allows others to carry out his crimes and then lords it over them as if he is the one exerting control.”
That brave chin quivered. “I gave him my submission for so long, and I refuse to ever be that girl again. I was her, Sebastian. I was weak.”
Strength filled the profession. “But I’m not weak anymore. And I’m even stronger with you by my side.”

This book is pure F***ING perfection!! Drowning to Breathe is definitely my favorite book by Amy, and I don’t say that lightly. I didn't think anyone could knock Christian out of the running!!
It seriously didn’t take me long to become head over heels in love with this book and the characters within. Days later and I still can't stop smiling huge whenever I think back on Baz, Little Bug, and Shea. This trio was all kinds of delicious magic. I must say, Ms. Jackson wrote her ass off for this finale and she did Baz, Kallie, and Shea all kinds of wicked justice! I swear they may just be my favorite “family” by this author.
While Baz was still rough around the edges, I found him to be absolutely swoon worthy this round. An enigma, yet underneath it all, a complete sweetheart with a heart of gold. There was nothing one dimensional about this character. He was fiercely sweet, loyal, and loving when it came to his girls. Which of course made my heart pound just a tad bit harder. I adored the hell out of him in A Stone in the Sea, but when it came to his role with Kallie in Drowning to Breathe, he owned me heart and soul.
Shea spoke to me on so many levels. She radiated amazing character through all the bulls*** she was put through. Amy did an unforgettable job of developing Shea and Kallie’s relationship. My heart ached for them with both sadness and happiness. She’s an inspiration; a true role model. I wish I could give her more than two thumbs up for being such a strong female protagonist. I adored the fact that through each and every obstacle she stayed humble and dedicated. She took the hellish times with the good and she grew to be a solid, dominant force for her family.
And wait till you meet Little Bug. Kallie will melt your heart. She was definitely something special. This little piece of Heaven took this book from five stars to six stars.
A.L. Jackson’s by far one of my favorite authors. An automatic buy; I don’t even bother to read the synopsis anymore before hitting that oh so famous one click button. If she wrote it, I would buy the phone book. That’s how in love with her writing I am. There is no doubt in my mind that this author is at the top of her game and a force to be reckoned with. The worlds this author creates encases the reader, taking them for one hell of a wild ride. Amy knows exactly how to captivate and intrigue her readers with poignant characters that leave a lasting impression. Her writing is a breath of fresh air. Stories you know you can always lose yourself in.
