Tammy's Rating and Review: 3.5-4 out of 5 Stars

"Don't you realize that this is what I do? I don't get involved--I don't fall in love--I don't care if someone lives or dies--I do what I'm paid to do."

I have been tossing this review around in my head for a few days now, and I am not quite sure how to review it or rate it. I have been swaying between 3.5 and 4 stars since I finished the book. I decided to go with an in between because there were parts I really liked and some that were just kinda there for me. Also Micah and Leese kept me up till five in the morning telling me their story.

If you are not a religious person or are not open minded enough to read about Christianity than this book is NOT for you.  It is very heavy in Christianity and God; the author should have stated this in the description. I am not a religious person, which is one of the reasons I rated a little lower on this book. However, I was able to look past it to still enjoy the story line. I just saw it as a part of Lesse; this was her belief system to get her through life. Everyone needs something to believe in. Below is just one of MANY quotes that reference her religious beliefs.

"Why couldn't I have met you some other way?"
"God, does everything for a reason, but you have no idea how much I wish the same thing."

Ok, now that we are past that let me just say I really loved the plot line and the author's writing style. Micah and Lesse were well developed, and their chemistry was emotionally intense. Both characters had deep secrets that would soon shape the story and the route it would take once they were revealed. Lindsay created a world that wrapped around a bad boy hit man contracted by the mob. His job was to get close to his target and take her out. The target just happens to be a spiritual 17-18 year old girl, who has had a broken life and relies on her Christianity to get her through the day. Lesse is a job, nothing else, and Micah has never failed to remove his target. Problem with this is Micah had yet to met Lesse, and our heroine is not like anyone else he has ever met. Our bad boy struggles with what he NEEDS to do vs. what he finds himself WANTING to do.

I adored Micah. Yeah he was a huge jerk, and he sometimes lost his temper. His moods were often all over the place. But if you stop and think about it, he is a hit man sent to kill a target who begins to make him question everything he does. Micah keeps his heart cold like ice, nothing or nobody penetrates it. He is completely lost and has no clue what the heck to do with Leese. She begins to affect all of his decisions and behaviors. I loved his inner struggle with not just his feelings but also with how he will handle his kill. In his head he knew he had to kill her but his heart was beginning to struggle with that idea.

"I don't want to corrupt you. That's why I haven't grabbed that impetuous mouth of yours with my own and taught it how to respond to a man. I've never had to use as much strength in my entire life as I have in these last nine days."

I thought Lesse was just ok, she isn't my favorite heroine, but I have read worse. I just found her a little too good to be true. If some dude was sent to kill me, there would be no way in hell that I would be as forgiving or as cooperative as she was. Her religious beliefs became very overwhelming at times. I needed her to be less perfect and more human.

"You're my reality Micah. I guess I just want you to realize I love you no matter who you are, or what you've done."

Overall, I really liked the love story. I adored the love triangle between Micah, Lesse and Ryan; more than once thought I would love to see Lesse with Ryan. I adored him and the way the author describes him throughout the book. He was a mystery to me, and on multiple occasions, I wondered who he really was. Lindsay wraps Ryan up in this veil of suspense.  He definitely held my attention just as much as Micah did. I found myself thinking of him in scenes that I should have been focused on Micah in. For once I could not be swayed one way or the other, I truly did not mind which one Lesse would end up with. I look forward to getting to know him better in the second book.
