Continuing the fight for their happily ever after that began in Searching for Moore, Schooner Moore and Mia Silver struggle to overcome the ghosts and baggage they accumulated during their time apart.

Exploring the missing 24 years when they were separated, Moore to Lose follows Mia's journey from heartbroken teen to kickass businesswoman to her emotional reunion with Schooner and the exploration of the love that was ripped from them.

But is their love really strong enough to overcome the damage of those missing 24 years or will they continue to be ripped apart by pasts that can't be changed?

Attended by reality TV star wannabes and Southern California social climbers, Schooner Moore knows the party his wife is throwing for his forty-third birthday has little to do with him and everything to do with her social standing in Orange County. The evening turns out to hold more surprises than just his wife's Botoxed friends groping at his privates, when a conversation with his old college roommate, Beau, reveals the biggest surprise of the night.

Beau has had contact on Facebook with Mia Silver. Just hearing her name sends Schooner into a tailspin, as he is now just a Friend Request away from the one who got away when she disappeared without a goodbye, leaving him wondering why she left.

A serial failure at romance, Manhattan boutique ad agency owner, Mia, gets a blindside of her own when a Facebook Friend Request from first love, Schooner, appears in her email. Going with her gut reaction, Mia hits accept, propelling her past to catch up with her in a New York minute, as a forceful Schooner is determined to understand what tore them apart and to explore the possibility of a second chance at love.

From a 1980's Southern California college campus and a devastating first love to present day New York City, Searching for Moore explores how technology has eradicated the divide between our past and our present, and asks whether you would give up everything to reconnect with The One in a single keystroke?

Damn, this woman could bring him to his knees. There they were - both standing there, naked. Vulnerable. The truth was finally out. And if he was standing there high on the edge of a cliff, he wasn't standing there alone anymore. Mia had joined him. She was as bold and fearless as she'd always been. This was the Mia Silver with whom he had fallen hopelessly in love.

"We're going to be ok, Mia," he reassured her. He wasn't going to allow himself to believe anything else. He could picture her shaking her head yes on the other end of the phone as he heard her trying to hide her tears. He pictured gently wiping them away with his thumb.

"You promise, Schooner?"

And as always with Mia, making a promise was so damn easy. "I promise, Baby Girl."

This is book two in the Needing Moore series and is the sequel to Searching for Moore. This book gives us answers to some questions we had from the first book. We see what happens after the gut wrenching end of SFM. But then we are also transported back and we learn more of Mia's life between leaving Schooner and the present situation. The first book gave us more Schooner's story and their reconnection. This book gives us Mia's difficult, painful journey. And it also gives us more glimpses into Schooner's thoughts as well. I loved seeing some scenes through Schooner's eyes and also getting to catch up to where they are in the present.

"We both went through hell and we each thought the other one didn't go there--and that made it even worse--and today we learned we both to hell--separately and alone. And now, I am going to fix this. I am going to make this right. We are going to have our happiness. I am putting this back on track--the way it was supposed to be."

But the majority of this story is about Mia. Where she went, the people who came into her life at various times and what they did for her, how she coped and her attempts to move forward without Schooner. Mia had a lot to get over as the terrible events from SFM and her loss of Schooner cut her to the core. She was young, smart, and strong, but it still was a lot for someone to deal with. And she did not always make good choices or healthy choices. But along the way she showed growth, determination, and an inner strength. She met people along the way that became significant in her life even though no one could ever live up the void left by Schooner. Some the people showed her how to heal, some showed her support, some helped her self esteem, and some tried to love her. Others were not such good influences are added to her pain. We get to see more about how Mia met the people that have become her support system and how they came to fit in her world.

"Of course you do, Mia. The edge is the only place you currently feel alive."~Rob
Oh Baby Girl, the whole time I was dying, so were you. We were both dying. This was so senseless. This never should have happened.

I love the characters in this series. Schooner is so sweet, loving, emotional, protective, and swoony. He is seriously the perfect guy: handsome, successful, charming, down to Earth and  devoted. And Mia is so unique, sassy, and strong. Even when she was having trouble coping, she still had a sense of humor and strong personality. And together their love is beautiful, soulful, and thoroughly touching. Their journey is so heartbreaking, maddening, and was so unecessary that it made me angry all over again that they both suffered so much. But it also made their reconnection even more  powerful and emotional.

It was real. It had always been real. They would work through the demons together...She was his and no one was ever going to take her from him again.

There were some scenes that literally ripped my heart out and made me tear up. Others that made me disappointed or angry. And still more that made me swoon and sigh with happiness. We get to know more about them apart as well as them together. This book gave me answers I needed and more depth to their story. But their story is not over. We have more challenges and milestones to face. I am really looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy. Julie A. Richman has created characters and a story line that is current and believable. She  pulls you into their story so deeply that you are highly invested in their outcome and are not ready to leave them when it is over. I adored Schooner and Mia in the first book and I still love them. They are seriously one of my all time favorite book couples.

Thanks to Julie A. Richman for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I agree, wholeheartedly! Mia was a character who deserved a well-written back-story and Julie Richman wrote one. What I wasn't expecting was to be drawn in DEEPER than I had with "Searching for Moore." I thought "Moore to Lose" was BETTER and cannot wait for the final book in the "Needing Moore" trilogy that brings Mia and Schooner to their eagerly anticipated HEA.

  2. These books certainly bring a roller coaster of emotions for the reader. Book two follows Mia throughout the twenty odd years apart from Schooner. Where she goes on a roller coaster ride of ups & downs on the discovery to find out who she is and to exercise a few ghosts along the way. She discovers some new friends some of whom we've already encountered in the first book, and find out a bit about who they are and how they fit into her life. This great series is going from strength to strength and I can't wait for the third book.
