A Beautiful Wedding Review, Promo & Giveaway: Jamie McGuire
A Beautiful Wedding (Beautiful #2.5)
You know that Abby Abernathy unexpectedly became Mrs. Maddox. But what do you really know?
Why did Abby pop the question?
What secrets were shared before the ceremony?
Where did they spend their wedding night?
Who else knew about it . . . and didn't tell?
Everything about Abby and Travis’s elopement was top-secret . . . until now. Fans of Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster will get all of their questions answered in this whirlwind tale of the wedding day (and night!)—and as with all good stories, this one will definitely have been worth the wait.
"This whole thing may play out to be a completely wonderful, beautiful disaster, but I want that if it's with you."
Even though we have already seen glimpses into Travis and Abby's happy-ever-after in Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster, this novella brings us back to the time around a tragic event and their wedding trip to Vegas. We get to see more of Abby's reasoning for suddenly wanting to get married, and honestly it all makes more sense now. It also made me like Abby so much more.
He was mine and I was his. If I knew anything at all, it was that only those two things mattered.
I did not realize how much I was missing until I read this novella. So we got to get more in depth about the Vegas trip, wedding, honeymoon, and fall out from events surrounding it. And it also goes forward to their one year anniversary and another special event. It is told in alternating points of view from both Travis and Abby this time. We got to see their insecurities, their fears, and their devotion and love for each other. I also liked getting to know his brother, Trent more. I am looking forward to his spin-off book in the Maddox brothers series. I already have his girl picked out and I hope she is his chosen one. And it was fun to check in with the others from the series especially America and Shepley, and to see some of the support from the parental influences in their lives. It was wonderful to see how Abby was adopted by so many special friends and family. But the crux of it all is the love between Travis and Abby, how they evolved and grew together as a couple.
A Maddox boy will take you all the way to the edge, but if you go with him, he’ll follow you anywhere… And when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever.
This novella was short, sweet, and engaging. It was funny, emotional, passionate, and joyful. There were some really special messages and scenes that made me melt. And it made me remember just how much I adore Travis. He is so protective, loving, vulnerable, and adorably addicted to Abby. He has come a long way from the rage filled, unconnected, playboy we first met. I always kind of ran hot and cold with Abby. She could be sweet, smart and loving. But was also such an avoider, runner, and broke Travis' heart so many times. But this book really made me see how much she loved Travis and how she did truly commit herself to him. This couple had their struggles, but really they were perfect for each other. Truly a beautiful disaster...and even though it was a nightmare getting there, they deserved their beautiful forever.
So even though we thought we knew all we needed to know between the first two books, this really does fill in some gaps and makes you fall right back in love with them as a couple. A perfect companion to this series. I completely enjoyed re-reading the other 2 books right before this one and was reminded again just how much I love Travis Maddox and the other characters. I really look forward to the Maddox brothers because Tommy, Trent, Taylor and Tyler are some intriguing, hot male characters as well.
This novella is told from both Abby and Travis's perspectives, so there is no questions what one or the other is thinking from one scene to the next, or what is going on with whoever is not in the current scene. We get to know it all in this one!
What I liked most about Beautiful Wedding was that it didn't just focus on the wedding, or even just the trip to Vegas. Yes, the wedding is the main plot point that we know is coming, but it picks up shortly before Travis's fight (THAT fight) and even in the portions that overlap BD and WD there is some knew material. So much happens that night, from Travis and Abby running in to each other at the pizza place, to what happens at the actual fight, that having that set up is crucial to the way Jamie sets up the whole reason they run off to Vegas.
I almost felt like this Abby was a different Abby than in the previous two books. I understood her motivation throughout the trip, but it was a side of her we hadn't really seen a whole lot of previously. It was a relief to see the events of those couple of days through her eyes.
Travis? Well, he's Travis. Probably one of my favorite book boyfriends ever. Still. He's unpredictable, but so focused on Abby. How could you not love that? I love that he is more vulnerable in this one, and we see a lot more of his fears and doubts.
I can't decide if I wish this was included in one of the first two, or if I love that it is published as it's own installment. I'm leaning towards loving it as a side piece. The combination of both points of view, focusing on a single event (and the set-up to that event) gives us so much detail about what both Abby and Travis are feeling that it has a much richer feel than if it was part of a larger novel.

Travis and Abby both matured with this book. I had no doubt Travis would rock my world like always; however, what shocked me the most was the fact that I ended up enjoying Abby. It’s no secret; I have never been her biggest fan. I found I adored Abby more this time around because she didn't give in to her urges to beat a path and run. Damn it was so refreshing! Honestly even though you knew they loved each other, that they were meant to be, Travis and Abby were a hot mess throughout Beautiful and Walking Disaster. A train wreck often waiting to happen. Her natural reaction was to always run any time something went south between them, his was to throw one hell of a temper tantrum and become overly jealous, trust me when I tell you it was definitely a nice change to experience something other than their extreme fight and flight syndrome. There was something soothing and peaceful about them moving past the anger, jealousy, and the desire to hurt one another.
I'm normally not a fan of novellas, my personal preferences
tend to gravitate towards full length novels, but every now and again I find
one that tickles my fancy. And seriously, this is Jamie McGuire, who in their
right mind would turn a blind eye? Hello, Travis fu***** Maddox, people!
Novella or not, there is no way in freaking hell I am missing out on the chance
to snuggle up with one of my favorite bad boys, especially one who helped start
my Indie obsession. Novella be damned!
Jamie McGuire masterfully takes us on another joyride
through memory lane to today as she fills us in on all the missing pieces with new content regarding that pivotal scene revolving around Travis' last fight and Abby’s sudden
immediate urge to visit Vegas and tie the knot. I will say it was most
definitely a treat to walk through those memories from both Travis and Abby’s viewpoints.
I think it helped to keep everything from both Beautiful Disaster and Walking
Disaster in perspective. Each characters outlook gave us a closer look at the
smaller details running through their thoughts, in turn allowing us the
opportunity to not only feel but to also experience the aftermath of that
fateful night their world was rocked off its axis.

No truer words spoken, this is the Maddox boys to the
"T.” Jamie not only managed to depict Travis to perfection in the first
two books with this quote, she also successfully set the tone for the next book featuring Travis', oh so super-hot, older brother Trent. The
bits and pieces we have been teased with have me anxiously awaiting this bad
boy’s arrival! I think he’s going to give Travis and Pidge a run for their
money, especially if he lives up to the famous Maddox reputation. All I have to
say is bring it on Jamie; I am so ready to sink my teeth into more of the Maddox’s version of alpha! I already know from personal experience with Travis that these Maddox boys are going to take me to the brink of insanity, make me question everything, and in the end leave me completely and utterly in love with their badass selves.
