Cherry Girl (The Blackstone Affair #3.5)
Add to Goodreads

Elaina Morrison has loved Neil McManus her whole life. She doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t love him. Through heartbreaking tragedy and years of separation, her love holds true…until life stomps all over her heart, shattering her perfect dream, teaching her how hard it is to let go.

Real life doesn’t have anything on romantic dreams though, as these two have learned repeatedly. It sucks big time, leaving painful scars in its wake.

But Neil isn’t giving up. He’s endured years of longing and sacrifice to wait for her. Always a soldier, he knows his way around a battlefield, and winning Elaina is no different. So that’s precisely what Neil is going to do. He'll go in fighting, and make Elaina see what he already knows.

That she will forever be his Cherry Girl…

"I love you, Elaina Morrison, and you'll always be my Cherry Girl. Always. Nothing will change it for me."

We met Ethan Blackstone's right had man, Neil and his significant other Elaina in The Blackstone Affair series, now we get their back story.

Elaina Morrison had a crush on Neil McManus since she was ten years old. He was a friend of her older brother, Ian and he basically became adopted by their family. Their lives changed over the years and they had to cope the best they could. They both had feelings they were afraid to express. But they could only wait so long before it was bound to all come out. And their entire relationship changed when she was eighteen and he was twenty-five. But feelings of love also come with fears of loss. And with two people accustomed to loss, that is difficult. And time was also their enemy.

Neil was swoon-a-licious. He was a tough alpha, but had a heart of gold. He was loving, protective, devoted and not afraid to show love. He could be stubborn and bossy, but was also fun, flirty, and sexy.

Elaina had been the good girl growing up, but tragedy had sent her spiraling in the other direction. She had feelings that she did not know how to deal with and found unhealthy ways to cope. She was younger, more immature, and could be impulsive.

I really loved Elaina and Neil together. they were so completely connected and had such love and passion. It was heartbreaking to see them struggle and have separations It was so clear that they belonged together even when life got in their way,. There were times I wanted to shake them both for the stubbornness and force them to communicate. At times they each closed off and needed a push to open back up.

This story was about love, loss, regrets, and soul mates. It covers time, distance, and tragedies. It was about going after what you want, knowing when to let go, when to hold on, and when to fight. It was sweet, heartfelt, humorous, sad, frustrating,  steamy, and swoony.

I loved the little snippets with Ethan Blackstone. I enjoyed her family especially her mother and brother, Ian. Their support of Neil was so special. And I liked how they tried to support them as a couple.

I admit that their seven year age difference seemed a little off especially when they were younger, but I liked that he waited patiently. And that their relationship spanned different types over the years from a young girl enamored with a teenage boy, to a teenage girl with a crush on a deploying soldier, to adults in various stages of their lives. And once they were older, it did not phase me because they were perfectly suited. It was angsty and dramatic in places and I wanted to throw my kindle at their communication issues that caused big problems. But overall, I enjoyed their story and it was a sweet companion novel to The Blackstone Affair series, but it can read as a stand alone. Having read the other books just adds a bit more depth to the side characters.  I am looking forward to the last installment of the Blackstone Affair Series, Rare and Precious Things  and for the start of Gabby's (Brynne’s friend) and Ivan’s (Ethan’s cousin) stories in the Rothvale Legacy.

Thanks to Raine Miller for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Raine Miller has been reading romance novels since she picked up that first Barbara Cartland book at the tender age of thirteen. And it's a safe bet she'll never stop, because now she writes them too! Granted Raine's stories are edgy enough to turn Ms. Cartland in her grave, but to her way of thinking, a hot, sexy hero never goes out of fashion. A part-time teacher and writer of sexy romance stories every other chance she gets pretty much fills her days. She has a handsome prince of a husband, and two brilliant sons to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. Her sons know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any, thank God! Raine loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books.
