Confessions of a Litigation God

Add to Goodreads

My name is Matt Connover. I am a Litigation God.

Other lawyers quake before me.

Women crawl on their knees just to spend the night in my bed and when I’m finished with them, I walk away without a backward glance.

I am well satisfied with my life and there isn’t a damn thing I’d change about it.

That is, until McKayla Dawson came along.
She was meant to be for one night only.

But she got under my skin, and now I want her back underneath my body.

It’s torture working with her in my law firm… day in and day out. But I have to think maybe the Fates have intervened to throw us together because she is unlike anyone I’ve ever known, and thus I need to pay careful attention to these Legal Affairs.

WARNING, LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK from Matt Connover, Litigation God: Please do not attempt to read my story in public, as my sexual proclivities have been known to cause squirming in your seat, squeezing of your legs together and unintentional moaning, sometimes with spontaneous bursts of laughter at random moments. If you are offended by the fact that my oral skills are just as accomplished in the bedroom as they are the courtroom, then this book is not for you. There may be moments while reading my story that you get so turned on… so hot and bothered… that your squirming and moaning could turn maniacal in nature and neither I, nor the author, are responsible for the weird looks you may get. Notwithstanding the aforementioned warnings, if you assume the risk and read my tale in public, then I recommend you carry a spare set of panties with you. You will need them and you have been warned.”

Confessions of a Litigation God is a stand alone, full length novel. It follows the affair of Matt Connover and McKayla Dawson as told in the Legal Affairs Serial Romance, Volumes 1-6. This book is told strictly from Matt's point of view and has many additional scenes not included in the serial volumes.

Matt F***ing Connover does not date. He does not give. He takes, and he may reciprocate, but he has no room in his life for a woman. No matter how great a f*** she is.

Holy Moly, more Matt Connover! We met this charistmatic, alpha lawyer in
Legal Affairs. He pissed me off, disappointed me, made me swoon, made me fan myself, pissed me off again, made me smile, and made me want save him.
Now we see under that tough, unattainable exterior to the man underneath,. The one who was scared sh**less about how much Mac affected him, how much he wanted her and wanted more from her. But was also so damaged by his ex that he pushed his feelings way down and hid behind a facade of heartless assholery.

She was only supposed to be an anonymous one night stand, but MacKayla ended up thrust right into his office and his life. Thus begins a convoluted story of lust, longing, passion, and denial. He's frustrated, jealous, sexually deprived, angry, and confused. And even at times when they are giving in to their mutual attraction and scorching chemistry, he is still full of inner conflict. And it all shows in his interactions with Mac. They fuss, they fight, and they do not effectively communicate mostly because he puts up a deflective shield whenever she gets too close.

I know I may come off as an asshole more than ninety-five percent of the time, but the truth is, I have a big heart too. I just don't let women in it. No, all of my heart is spent on just a few things...my family, which includes my amazing mom and dad who live in eastern Pennsylvania, my seven-year-old son, Gabe, and my law practice.

I loved seeing the little cracks form in his walls. He tries to deny and push her away, but he can't seem to stay away. Seeing his internal struggles just made him more real and swoon worthy to me.

I think I've come to accept that a crack has formed in my hard exterior, and McKayla Dawson has wormed her way in just a bit. While I still feel strong in my convictions, and I'm not going to let this go any further than the bedroom sheets, I have a gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that I may be doomed.

Matt is in control in every aspect of his life, but Mac. And no matter how tries to control his feelings for her, he can't. Even with his volatile ex wife, he can manage her. But he cannot seem to get a handle on him and Mac. She is the one thing that paralyzes him with fear and sets off every defense mechanism.

In order to really let her in, he has to let go of his past. Will he and can he do that? And even if he does, they still have to deal with the fall out from their forbidden office affair.

I not only loved seeing more of the vulnerable, sweet Matt, but also liked getting into his fear, anxiety, denial, guilt, and indecision when he was upset, jealous, or mad. To get under his layer of protection and outer asshole persona. It made him more real to see his damage and vulnerability. And seeing his conflicting thoughts about Mac and his past really showed his inner turmoil.

"I finally started realizing that the pain of loneliness is much worse than the pain of betrayal and heartbreak that I was trying to avoid."

It broke my heart to see him struggle. His body and heart wanted her and needed her, but his mind kept reinforcing the walls. And it just served to let him see what he would not let himself have and made him crazy and out of control. I got mad and disappointed in him when he sabotaged himself and their relationship, but also felt sorry for him.  He was truly a man ruled by his fear of getting hurt again. I loved his relationship with his son, Gabe. That was one area where he did not falter or would not compromise. Gabe was his first priority. Their relationship was sweet and heartfelt.

I was excited that she added  more to the ending and some other scenes we were not privy to in Mac's point of view. I enjoyed getting into Matt's head, and understanding his motivation made me even more invested in them. He was a complex character with many layers and now they are all exposed. This was a great companion to the Legal Affairs series. It could be read as a stand alone, but I really think it has more impact getting to see the more mysterious Matt from Mac's eyes in Legal Affairs first and then coming back and getting to see his motivations, conflicts, feelings, and fears. Even though it followed the same events, it felt fresh in Matt's point of view and provided more insight. And honestly, I cannot get enough of Matt Connover so being in his head and back with him and Mac was a big plus right there. I just love this guy whether he is in his asshole mode or being charming, sexy, or sweet. This was fun, sexy, frustrating, emotional, and romantic. I got sucked right back into their story and left it with a big smile on my face.

Confessions of a Litigation God chronicles Matt Connover’s perspective of the events from Legal Affairs.

Matt Connover is a study in confidence. He is a successful lawyer who knows exactly what he wants from a relationship -- sex. He is adamant that the only thing he needs from a woman is one night of sex, and nothing more. Until he meets Stella, one of his hook-ups from One Night Only, a club specializing in no strings attached sex. Stella consumes his thoughts following their night together to the point he considers scheduling another meeting with her, breaking his self imposed rule, until she walks into his office as the new associate attorney, McKayla “Mac” Dawson.

Matt’s confidence and conviction go through several shake-ups as he navigates the relationship with Mac. The scenes follow the Legal Affairs scenes very closely with a few new scenes that bring to light what Matt was dealing with outside his interactions with Mac, but with Lorraine, Marissa, Macy, and his other employees providing the feedback and interaction.

Seeing what looked like a hot-and-cold reaction from Legal Affairs through Matt’s eyes changed my perspective on Matt and I ended up loving him even more as I read this than I did at the end of Legal Affairs.

While this book stands alone just fine, to truly enjoy it, I think it works best as a companion. Because everything is from Matt’s pov, the development of the storyline has a different feeling and progression, and is complete on it’s own. But because Matt is so hard-lined against a relationship, it helped me to have met him through Mac’s eyes rather than his own. The times I really didn’t like him in Legal Affairs didn’t get the same reaction from me this time because I could follow his thought process without Mac’s hurt blinding the emotion. If anything, I was more sympathetic to the life changes Matt faced after reading this. But at the same time it is a complete story without missing pieces.

I love Matt even more now than I did after reading Legal Affairs. This book was a great flash back to Mac and Matt’s world, and was a fun glimpse into the mind of the Litigation God. There are some great additions of the storyline, including an epilogue that, from Matt’s eyes, was so much fun to read.

Legal Affairs – Objection (Volume 1 in the Legal Affairs Serial Romance)
One year ago, I graduated from law school and embarked on a career as a purveyor of high priced legal shenanigans.
Six months ago, my boyfriend dumped me when I thought he might be proposing.
Two weeks ago, I got drunk and joined a secret sex club.
Two days ago, I had a torrid one-night stand with a stranger.
Today? Well, today I’m contemplating having an affair with my boss.
Matt Connover is all kinds of forbidden temptation wrapped up in a deliciously wicked package, and he’s made it clear… he’s only interested in sex.
My name is McKayla Dawson but everyone calls me Mac. I work at the powerhouse firm of Connover & Crown, LLP, where the law has never felt so hot.
But between you and me, I’m afraid my heart won’t survive these Legal Affairs.

Legal Affairs – Stipulation (Volume 2)
I crossed a line with my boss and there’s no taking it back.

Not that I’d want to.
You see… Matt Connover? Well, he’s something else. Strong, magnetic, sexy as hell… but yeah, he’s still my boss.
What am I doing? Why is he so irresistible to me?
Maybe it’s because I finally saw a different side to him. I saw, for a brief moment, that Matt is vulnerable, possibly damaged. Is it wrong that it makes him even sexier in my opinion?
I’m in deep and I don’t see any way out.

I don’t want to find a way out.

I want to find a way for both of us to stay involved in these Legal Affairs.

Legal Affairs – Violation (Volume 3)
My life is in a tail-spin and I’m about ready to crash.
I’ve cut Matt Connover out of my life… well, at least out of my bedroom.

But I still have to deal with him at work. I have Lorraine intent on raining hell and destruction down upon me, which at least provides a nice diversion from my miserable feelings over Matt.
About the only good thing that has happened to me lately?

Cal Carson asked me out… and I accepted.
Matt’s not going to like that. Not one little bit.

But that’s not my problem now, is it?

Legal Affairs – Mitigation (Volume 4)
I’ve seen a new side to Matt Connover. He’s proven to me that there is something inside him other than icy control and masculine force.

I’ve seen care… tenderness… even protectiveness.

I’ve seen vulnerability.
But Matt Connover’s issues run deep. I know Cal hurt him greatly, and he keeps himself protected because of that. I also sense there is something more to his pain that even I cannot comprehend.
Matt is struggling between what he knows and what he wants.

I’m struggling with boundaries and how to protect my own fragile heart.
This time I’m drawing a line in the sand and Matt can either step over to join me, or these Legal Affairs are finished forever.

Legal Affairs – Reparation (Volume 5)
Matt Connover is like a new person. Caring, romantic and thoughtful. No worries though… he’s still sexy as hell.
He has changed in every way that I have ever dreamed of, and he did it because he wants me. It’s like a fairy tale of sorts.
Except… like with every fairy tale, there is a villain. One who threatens to disrupt the harmony we have created together.
Is what we have strong enough to survive? I truly believe that perhaps I can find love within these Legal Affairs. I’m just not sure Matt believes it.

Legal Affairs – Affirmation (Volume 6)
Things are off, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Some things, however, are the same. For example, the sex with Matt is just as nuclear and consistent as it always has been.
Still… I feel like I’m holding onto Matt with my fingertips, like he’s on the verge of slipping away and I don’t know what to do.
When I started these Legal Affairs, I had no way of knowing the depth of feeling that would become involved. I had no way of knowing this man could shatter my existence.
I don’t want to be hurt, so I’m grasping hard and I can only hope that he wants me enough to hang on just as tight.
