The sisters of Sea Haven, bound by the heart and the magical power of the elements, return in this soul-stirring new novel from Christine Feehan, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Spirit Bound...
For as far back as she can remember, Airiana Ridell has always been aware of her extraordinary gift. She can intuit revealing and illuminating 'patterns' in the air around her-whether in a spray of mist, in billowing clouds, or in the dense swirls of an impenetrable fog. Her abilities led to her placement in a secret government training facility when she was a child, but everything changed after her mother was murdered.
Airiana fled the program, but she couldn't outrun the desperate members of a shadowy cabal who want her, who need her, who will kill to get her. Kidnapped and held aboard a ship bound for dangerous seas, her only chance for rescue is Maxim Prakenskii. He has his reasons for helping her, but he isn't about to reveal them to Airiana. Not yet. Not as the two are drawn together as moth to flame. Not when there are so many secrets yet untold that could shatter the quaint community of Sea Haven and all who reside there...
I really enjoyed spending the day back in Sea Haven with my beloved Prakenskii brothers. After a 2-year wait, which felt like forever, Ms. Feehan finally gave us Max's story.
Like his brothers before him, Max was lethal, disciplined, and detached—until he placed his soul mate mark on Airiana. Everything about Airi screamed gentle, compassionate and loving yet fierce, sassy, and brave. I would say she was exactly what the doctor ordered. Poor Max, Airiana came out of nowhere blindsiding him. She rocked his carefully built axis, making him yearn for things he had never even begun to entertain. As you can expect, Max did not go down without a fight. Our boy fought against every ounce of temptation hard (did I mention these men tend to be a bit tenacious); however, his body and heart had a mind of their own. And once he accepted she was what fate had in store for him all bets were off.
I loved Air Bound; however, I was not head over heels in love with it. Max and Airiana’s story is a fast, wild ride of nonstop twist and turns, abduction, deception, trafficking and slow burning gravitation.
If I adored the characters so much, why was I not head over heels in love?
For me, it was the simple fact that the romance felt second best to the nonstop action and descriptive trafficking scenes. Due to this, it was really hard to connect with our hero and heroine as fated soul mates. Each time the author gave us the opportunity to experience them as a couple it would seem as though we were thrown right back into more action. Only getting quick glimpses of them in "couple" time. Therefore, the structure of their relationship, even though they were a lot of fun, just did not allow time for that special brand of magnetism I have been searching for since I laid eyes on my first Prakenskii brother.
Ilya Prakenskii (Turbulent Sea) has always been my absolute favorite brother; so far, the other Prakenskii brothers have not been able to compete with him. In my opinion, no matter how much Ms. Feehan tries she cannot match the same level of chemistry with their significant others that he holds with his. Ilya and Joley are absolutely kick ass together; they set your heart on fire with their intense emotional and physical connection. I know it is probably not fair, but each time I start a new Prakenskii, I compare their love story to the original brother's.
Max and Airi were intriguing set of characters, and I think if the author focused a little bit more on their relationship and a little less on the trafficking I would have been completely captivated by them. In the end, what it comes down to is that there was too much guts and gore for my taste and not enough focus in the romance department.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, especially if you are a Feehan lover such as myself. Even though this one fell slightly flat for me, I am anxious to see which Prakenskii brother we meet next. I am also hoping it does not take the author another 2 years to release it.
Thank you, Berkley/Jove and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of Air Bound in exchange for my honest opinion.

I am a writer and have been almost my entire life. I have to write every day or I'll drive my family crazy. I first became a published author in 1999 with the release of Dark Prince. Before that I had a wide variety of jobs including being a full time mom, a martial arts instructor, a telephone operator, and I even worked for a newspaper. Now I’m able to write full time.
