It was supposed to be easy.
Hire a professional actor to play my fake fiancé.
But when he steps in front of my door to pick me up for The Interview, my heart stops. Chase Wright is perfect. And hot. I mean like, burn up your dress hot. However, Chase isn't professional at all. I hate what he does to me with his sinfully sexy blue eyes. I hate that he wants me in his bed.
One month…that’s all I need him for. All I have to do is stay out of his bed. But the rules slowly begin to change. My fake fiancé suddenly becomes my fake husband. When Chase offers me an indecent proposal, it's too late to fire him. It's too late to decline.
Full-length novel. Includes free prequel novella THAT GUY.
We met Laurie Hanson in That Guy as she endured a frightening, disastrous situation with a mysterious stranger. We were teased with secrets and guilt from her past, but nothing definitive. Fast forward, a few months later and due to circumstances beyond her control, Laurie is in need of a fake fiance' fast. Where does one find a man to fake it with? Well, her best friend, Jude has a brilliant plan and makes it happen. Simple really...hire one. But she finds a candidate that sends Laurie reeling.
Unbelievabley stalkable. F***ably sexy. Simply Tastylicious. He was so hot he couldn't possibly be real.
Unbelievabley stalkable. F***ably sexy. Simply Tastylicious. He was so hot he couldn't possibly be real.
Their initial interview is nothing short of awkward and mortifying for the much more naive Laurie, but there is a flash of forbidden interest too. She is very vocal about not wanting real marriage or relationships, but has an agenda and timeline that requires her to be attached soon. Her past shapes her perceptions, behavior, and plans for the future. But he seems interested in the prospect of helping her.
"Do you believe in destiny, Laurie?"
"No, I believe in reality."
Chase Wright is full of smirks and surprises. He has charisma, a sense of humor, and is gorgeous and intriguing. Her puts her off balance, confuses her, and appears to be the only immediate answer to her dilemma. But he also begins to seem more interested than he is supposed to be. She is resistant, wants, rules and control and is determined to be fully professional and have nothing personal or intimate between them. But Chase has a few proposals of his own
"I believe there's more to us than meets the eye, and if we're willing to take a second look, past first impressions, then we might just find a sparkle we were too blind to see before."
And even she is not immune to his flirting and sexiness, and it becomes harder for her to keep up her defenses. But she has secrets, demons, serious trust issues, and is afraid to let anyone really in. And Chase seems to have a duality to him and his own secrets as well. There is an air of mystery about him that does not quite fit with his perceived image.
I realized he was like fire, and if I didn't stop this, I was going to get burned.
This story was one that kept me thinking and guessing while trying to figure out what they were both hiding. We get some answers, then more questions. I am still trying to wrap my head around how it all might fit together. Just when I thought I figured out a connection, something would change my mind. I am even more perplexed between the novella That Guy, this book, and then reading ahead to the prologue of the next installment. Because that prologue had my head spinning all over again.
This "couple" seems to getting in over their heads in various ways. There is so much going on under the surface. So much unknown about their pasts, and even current motivations. There are people around them with dubious intentions and even some apparent threats. It is hard to tell if it is all related or part of several plot lines merging together. But it is an intriguing ride.
The dynamics of their fake relationship seem to change and morph the more they are around each other. Each seem to have definite ideas of what is and isn't going on, but there is a definite push and pull between them. They are quite different in personality type and behavior, but seem to find more common ground than expected. It was told in Laurie's point of view so Chase really is an enigma. But it looks like we might at least get some of his point of view in the next one. I really want to get into his head more. Thankfully her outrageous room mate Jude brings in a lot of humor and sassiness. And the interactions between all of the characters can be witty and fun..
But their whole deal is based on lies, half-truths, secrets and hidden agendas. It is hard to tell who to trust and who has ulterior motives. And there seem to be other mysterious factors at that play adding more questions and challenges. I am interested to keep getting more insight into what their motivations are, what is really going on, and how all the little pieces fit together in An Indecent Proposal: The Agreement.
