The second installment in the Only series. Must read book one first!!

First loves never die but Grayson Ford comes close. Bleeding out in a war zone, he barters with God. Bring him back alive, and he’ll make it right with his girl.

*All I want is Emma. I need her, and I fight for her memory. A story. A smile. Anything. But it’s all blank.*

Emma is not his girl anymore. Time has skipped by and life’s been hard. She strips to pay the bills, waitresses to fill the hours between classes and her third job. All while working to be the best mama she can be to the little girl who will never know her daddy. Even though Grayson abandoned her, she mourned his death. Until he calls, and everything she knew was wrong.

*It’s him. The him that ruined my life. That made my life. That confused my mind to the point that I can’t figure out if I’ve been destroyed or set free. The him that… is… dead.*

He’s back with one objective—Emma Kingsley—and she never sees it coming.

The novella series will release in its entirety this spring.

I couldn't wait to get started on this novella after the way we were left in Only For Him. I fell in love with these young characters in the first novella and my heart was left broken. Now three years later we get to see more of what is going on in the present.

Emma's life is one big pile of stress and chaos as she works three jobs and does her best to handle all of her other obligations to the best of her ability. She is strong, independent, and has a good support system of family and friends. She is still coming to terms with her past and recent news of Grayson and that has rocked her already overwhelming world.

It's him. The him who ruined my life. Who made my life. Who confused my mind to the point that I can't figure out if I've been destroyed or set free. The him who...is...dead.

The love of my life--whom I hate--has come back from the dead? All I want to do is kill him! Or maybe hug him. I don't know.

Grayson is not the same guy he used to be, but with his experience and maturity he realizes that he has made some big mistakes. He struggles with issues and feels broken in addition to his usual feelings of unworthiness and guilt. He is full of regret and is determined to rectify his past mistakes and make it right with Emma.

"The guy you knew...he's gone. But some things don't change, Emma, and you saving me is one of them."

I've been a dead man walking for years, hurting and hardened, looking for an outlet and suffocating on my mistakes. I've been wrong.  Been scared. Been a motherf***in' fool. The answer to my problems has always been right here, with her.

Both of them have suffered due to his one decision and poor communication. They both have personal situations to deal with currently, and there are still secrets and omissions between them. And one of those secrets is a really important one.

Can they find forgiveness and a way to move forward? How will Grayson react to what she had hidden from him?

They have such a deep connection and chemistry. I liked seeing the somewhat older and life-seasoned Emma and Gray in contrast to their more idealistic younger selves we saw in the first novella. They are mature beyond their years and have both paid the price for his decisions.

The side characters added humor and depth. And I might have even squeeed out loud when a character from another series was mentioned.

This series just sucks me in and I am sorry to see each installment end. They are short reads, but they pack an emotional punch. The characters are well developed and likable. It is told in dual point of view and I could feel their desperation, fear, and vulnerability. I think I audibly sighed several times. There was so much anticipation, tension, and just an intensity to all of their interactions. Gray's honest promises and determination to fix things made me swoon. Emma's strength and perseverance was so admirable. But my heart also broke for them at times. Everything between them was always so deep and all consuming. I felt everything they did. Then just when I was completely immersed in their story, it was over. I can't wait to read the next one Only For Us and see how the dynamics change again.

This second book in the Only series definitely feels like the middle of a series. There is still a lot for them to figure out, but we’ve learned about their history, and we’ve seen a bit of the years they lost leading up to their reunion. But now? Readers learn what Emma has been up to for the last few years, and we know where Grayson has been, but there are some big questions that remain to be answered. And more complications are added to the mix through their actions in this installment.

Just as I started to feel settled wham! And now have to wait for the next installment. The down side of a novella series is that each individual installment moves so quickly and then the way! But I’m finding the wait absolutely worth it in this case. I can’t wait to find out what happens next based on the final scenes.

Fans of Cristin’s Titan series will appreciate the Parker references throughout. Grayson isn’t Titan, but somehow he has a connection to the tech-guru and uses that connection to his advantage.

This series is fast moving, heartbreaking, sweet, and I hope against hope that Grayson and Emma work things out because they are just meant to be!

Grayson Ford and Emma Kinglsey—close since they were kids, opposites in every way. He’s the stuff high school crushes are made of, Mister Popular, and captain of every team. She’s artsy, cute, and not in his league, though fully aware of Summerland’s "I Dream of Dating Grayson Ford" support group.

I can’t say no. The girl’s had my heart since before I knew it went missing.

He hides a life of hell. His father hates him, his mother’s gone. Emma is his only savior, yet she doesn’t know her power over him. She’s the only girl he wants, the only one he could ever tell—though he won’t.

I’m stronger, bigger, more of a man than he’ll ever be, but because I ruined his life, I’ve taken his crap, his attacks, the vulgar nature of his existence.

Until she discovers Gray’s embarrassment, his humiliation. Emma fights for him, for a chance. Theirs is a Cinderella story that she believes impossible. But as the layers peel back, it’s just a guy who needs a girl in order to keep breathing.

My mind is already doodling Mrs. Grayson Ford in imaginary notebooks. He has no clue where my head is at… But, given that I didn’t see what just happened coming, maybe I have no clue where his head is at either.
