Three years passed.
Long and brutal.
Lonely and sometimes scary.
But he swore he’d find me—that’d he’d do everything to get me back. Well, his word was final. His word was true. He’s back.
Ace Crow: Ruthless. Deadly. Risky. An extremely bad man. I’m everything he’s not. I’m the missing piece to his disturbing puzzle. But he’s mistaken about one thing. No one said getting me back was going to be easy. There are always consequences to ones actions. There are always hidden truths. There is always betrayal.
Things aren’t so simple anymore. My life has changed dramatically. Bringing him back in will only be dragging me back down.
I’m afraid.
I shouldn’t.
But I love him.
A lot.
I’m a fool.
BEWARE, my beating heart.
This review contains spoilers to the first book Beware...
For those of us that were gutted by the ending of Beware and the silver lining in a sad and tragic ending, Shanora Williams is now giving these characters a second chance for happiness.
"I'm getting my f****** life back, but first...I'm getting London back."
London has spent over three years putting her life back together and trying to get over the loss of her love, Ace Crow. Little did she know, Ace has been in his own hell. But once he can, he comes back reclaim her. However, she finally has a new stable life that she is not sure she wants disrupted.

London has spent over three years putting her life back together and trying to get over the loss of her love, Ace Crow. Little did she know, Ace has been in his own hell. But once he can, he comes back reclaim her. However, she finally has a new stable life that she is not sure she wants disrupted.
"Tell me that you want me to fight for you, because I will, Red...I will f****** fight for you."
Ace was the ultimate bad boy--a real one--Drug and gun dealer, head of a crime organization, killer, and a thief. But London changed him and he was willing to try to be a better man for her. He had no control over what happened to him. He now has his own questions and his own agenda. Even though the revengeful man in him wants to find who betrayed him and ruined his life, the man with emotions knows London won't take him leaving again for that world.
So he has to decide what is really most important to him--taking care of business and revenge or getting back his family. Neither of the options are an easy task. Ace has done horrible things and earned many enemies. And just being "alive" and back in their presence could put them in danger.
To be honest, with all they've been through because of my mistakes, thy're better off without me. But even if that is true, I can't let them go. I'm selfish as f*** when it comes to what I want. They are what I want. What I need...They . Are. Mine.
London is tough and has proved herself a survivor. But she has lost so many people she loved. And she was still missing and mourning Ace. But she has more than just herself to think about. It is hard to trust him and her own judgment.
This one was gripping, raw, emotional and suspenseful. It was told in dual point of view. I really felt so much more for Ace in this one versus the first book. In the first one he was alpha, cool, calculating, ruthless, and at first unemotional. But London changed him. His recent experiences and what he missed, made him more open, vulnerable, emotional and protective. He still had his killer instincts and dominant personality, but now is ruled more by emotion and love than wealth and power.
"Everything we go through happens for a reason. It's life. Sometimes to make us stronger, like you. And sometimes to make us realize the good we have and to never let it go again, like me." (Ace)
London got on my nerves a bit due to her indecisiveness. But it was not hard to understand her reasoning. She was a fierce protector in her own way. She has been through a lot of pain and loss in her life and Ace's return shook up her stable, normal life. But she also had an inner strength and goodness about her, and could also handle some of the uncertainties and danger with a calm head.
Together they were volatile, passionate, and unable to control themselves. Their chemistry was electric and tangible. But it was hard for them to tell sometimes if they were good or bad for each other. They seemed like opposites, but also shared commonalities and empathy.
"This is real, London. This is you and me. I love you. I need you in my life. This isn't some made up fairtyale sh** I've been holding onto. This is f****** real. We...are real."
Several of the characters from Beware are back. Most notably his cousin Bianca who was a big influence in their lives. And also Ace's friend, Maurice. I was happy to see the return of another friend, but it was kind of a surprise so don't want to give it away. There were also several possible enemies and antagonists. And these people did not play around.
This was a complex story with many layers, players, and twists. There was mystery, suspense, tension, and danger. It was at times pretty raw and gritty. It was steamy and passionate. It was about taking a stand, fighting for family, survival, and living life...with a side of betrayal, revenge, and payback. But at the center of it was an unconventional and complicated, but true love. There will be more coming with his cousin Bianca who still has some secrets, so maybe we will see more of these characters in the future.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
My eyes welt with thick, hot tears. I lower the phone, rattled, unhinged.
But then I hear the crunch of footsteps along the cool sand. The steps are soft, but I hear them clearly. I look up, spotting a tall silhouette approaching,
It’s late. Ever since what happened in New York, I feel no place is really safe so I start to run back for my house, but the person calls my name.
I halt.
Gasp.
That voice… it’s familiar.
My eyes are the widest they’ve ever been.
“Don’t run. You’re safe,” he murmurs over the howl of the wind. “Turn around.”
My hands are cold but my blood is boiling—whooshing in my ears. My throat tingles. I’m not sure what I’m feeling. But I give in. I turn. I want to believe my eyes have deceived me, but I know they haven’t. They couldn’t have, because in the flesh is the man I fell so dangerously hard for three years ago. In the flesh, is the man that fell for me, the man that sacrificed his life and friends for my sake. The man that is supposed to be dead.
Before me is the man I never thought I’d lay eyes on again.
With his hands tucked in the pockets of his grey slacks, his smile so wickedly handsome beneath the pale moonlight, he deeply murmurs, “It’s been a while, Red.” And I can’t believe myself, my body’s reaction, but from the sound of his highly intoxicating voice I clench like never before.
One last step and I can finally see him clearly. He looks the same, if not better. A little skinny and a little more rugged, like he’s been through hell and back, but better.
Sexier.
Sleeker.
Breathtaking.
“Ace.” I release a sharp gasp. My head spins. My gut churns. My body starts to rock back and forth. I’m losing the battle with gravity.
He realizes what’s happening, that I think I’ve completely lost my mind, because the last thing I hear him say is my name before I fall backwards, my eyes shut, and I fade into darkness.
