Stuck spending the summer with his screwed up family, Gabriel Walker is bored out of his mind and looking for an adventure. And he seems to find it with the hot girl who lives next door. The attraction between them is instant. Electric. Soon they’re spending every stolen minute together. Talk about the perfect summer fling…

Lucy isn’t what she seems. She doesn’t live next door—she’s the girl who’s been hired to house sit for the summer while the family goes on a worldwide vacation. If Gabe wants to believe she’s a spoiled rich girl looking for some fun, she can go along with that. After the summer, she’ll never see him again.

They don’t count on running into each other at college. Now Lucy must keep up the pretense of being a rich girl—and it’s exhausting. She knows she’s falling in love with Gabe and she’s scared he feels the same. Will he still care about her when he discovers the truth?

Lucy is house sitting for the summer. Growing up in a single parent household, Lucy has never had an easy life and the neighborhood she is staying in is completely different from everything she is used to. And so is the GQ look alike she catches watching her afternoon swims from next door.

Gabe sees the end of his own plans coming faster than he likes. His parents have his future planned out -- where he will work after college, who he should marry. The girl he catches a glimpse of at their summer house is unlike any of the girls his parents parade in front of him and he is intrigued.

A summer spent getting to know each other sends both into a spin when they run into each other on campus. Long after either thought they would see each other again.

But can Lucy keep up the rich girl charade she started over the summer? And what will Gabe think when he learns she’s really a maid’s daughter on scholarship?

Knowing that they *do* end up at the same school after the summer was over, I felt like the summer scenes dragged on after a while. I guess I didn’t need as much build up to know these two felt differently about each other than they usually do towards the opposite sex. This had a slow build up, but I loved watching their friendship develop as well as Lucy’s friendship with his sister, even though much of what Lucy shared wasn’t necessarily true.
There were moments where Lucy’s self-deprecation irked me. She is quick to label herself a whore, which given the attitude her mother developed after Lucy’s father left while she was pregnant was understandable, but it still hurt to read. It worked into her character development as her thinking evolved, even though in the moment it stuck out as harsh and exaggerated.

I loved the back and forth of them on campus. The camaraderie they had established during the summer came back quickly and made for fun scenes. I knew the truth would out eventually and worried about that fallout, but I loved the friendship they built and they way it was so different from any of Gabe’s other relationships with women.
This was a fun, fast read. Was it serious? No. But it’s also not meant to be. Maybe I had a better feeling for what to expect from this series when I picked this book up, but I liked this one as a whole better than I did Fair Game. The back and forth angst didn’t bug me like it tends to, and even in the more serious situations it keeps things fun and light.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
