Perfect for fans of Katy Evans and Monica Murphy, Sarah Robinson’s blistering-hot series debut introduces the Kavanagh brothers—mixed martial arts fighters who work hard, play hard, and love with all their hearts.

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

Breaking a Legend introduces readers to the Kavanagh family, a powerhouse family with a strong sense of loyalty and love. The large extended family runs an MMA gym and includes a successful fighter, an up and coming fighter, a cop, and everyone else pitches in to run the family businesses.

Rory Kavanagh sustained a career ending knee injury that still gives him pain a year later. Stuck in a rut, he doesn’t know how to fill his time without fighting, so he turns to alcohol and pills instead.

Clare Ivers is new in town. Hiding from her past, she misses the plans she had left behind and fears the consequences if her mistakes catch up with her.

The story itself was promising. I loved the idea of this big strong fighter finding value in training his brother and protecting his girlfriend. But Clare’s secrets didn’t come out until later, so Rory had no idea that there was any threat to Clare (or the seriousness of said threat) until things were well under way.

The threat itself was rather ambiguous to readers as well. Her reactions to certain things made it seem like there was no threat, but it quickly became clear that she had run from something, just not what that threat was.

I felt that some transitions and plot points moved too quickly for them to be believable. The last third of the book felt rushed, almost like it was missing details that would have fleshed the story out.

But I loved the large family dynamic. Between the siblings, and Casey (who may as well have been a sibling), and their very involved parents, there were a lot of personalities and characters to get to know. This is not a family that gets together out of obligation. They are warm, welcoming, and fiercely loyal to any they consider their own. I also loved Ace. As canine characters go, he was a great addition to the story both for what he said about Rory and the direct role he played in the story.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
From the author's website:

Kavanagh Legends will officially be a full series, meaning you will get all 6 stories from each of the Kavanagh siblings. A tight knit Irish family of MMA fighters, these alpha males will steal your heart with their blistering hot stories. They can all be read as standalones, but also work nicely together. The first, BREAKING A LEGEND, goes live in TWO WEEKS on September 29th, 2015 and is Rory Kavanagh’s story! The second, SAVING A LEGEND, will be coming in March 2016 and is Kieran Kavanagh’s story. You won’t meet Kieran in Book 1, because he’s in jail…. so there’s that. But don’t worry, he finally gets released in the beginning of Book 2 and his story will SO be worth it- believe me! Don’t forget to preorder both today and add them on Goodreads! After Rory and Kieran’s books will come Kieran’s twin, Kane Kavanagh, the up and coming mixed martial arts fighter who the entire Kavanagh family is helping to become one of the best. Then it’s Quinn’s turn to tell his tatted and pierced tale, before the youngest brother and NYPD officer, Jimmy Kavanagh, shows he has a law breaking side to him after all. Lastly, their cousin Casey (who has lived with them since she was 4) will get her own story with an in depth look at the Kavanagh family’s ties to the Irish mafia.

Each and every one of these books will be exciting, hot, and a gripping read!
