Book Tour: Beautiful Distraction: J. C. Reed.
From New York Times Bestselling Author, J.C. Reed, comes a new standalone novel.
Kellan Boyd always gets what he wants—except that one infuriating city girl who bumped into his new chick magnet sports car, dared to call him a jerk, and basically threw his pity check in his face.
Fast forward three months later.
When Ava Cross suddenly knocks on his door in the middle of a storm, soaking wet and in dire need of help, he’s determined to settle old scores and finally get her between the sheets where she belongs.
Ava knows Kellan is a complex man with a dark past and a wild reputation he can’t deny. Forced to stay, Ava begins a desperate search for the truth about the one man she wants to despise and quickly discovers that the passion she feels for him isn’t just deep…it’s dangerous to her heart.
Kellan is a beautiful distraction. When the traps of her own weakness stand in the way, Ava is faced with one choice only: peel off the layers of a man who's a wild cowboy at heart.
Author’s note – Beautiful Distraction is a full-length standalone novel with no cliffhanger. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
Their first meeting definitely left a strong first impression, but not all good. But it was enough to leave them both with lingering thoughts and attraction, antagonism, and rejection. Their second meeting was heavy on irritation and confusion. But by the third face to face encounter, Kellan Boyd is ready to meet the challenge of Ava Cross head on.
And Ava is stuck because she needs his help. She is sassy, proud, sensible, honest, and a bit uptight. She is a relationship type of girl and does not do casual sex. She's been burned in the past and has her guard up and proceeds with caution. The depth of her attraction to him scares her so much that it only makes her want to put up her shields of self protection even more. She is the ultimate challenge for a guy used to having woman fall all over him.
Kellan Boyd is the elusive fantasy guy type: mysterious, sexy, broody, arrogant, rich, witty, and confident. But it is a thin line between charismatic and jerk. It is obvious that he has secrets and past pain. He does not do relationships, but is desperate to get Ava to agree to some naughty fun. But the player also seems to have a dual personality between a flashy, cocky, rich man and a more casual Montana cowboy. But which one is the more dangerous to Ava's resistance? They challenge each other from the first moment and bury under each other's skin. There is a strong push and pull, flirty and fiery banter, and sexual innuendo. There is so much sexual tension and need surrounding them and there is more going on under the surface than either of them are willing to admit. But Kellan is determined to chase her until he gets what he wants.
From New York to Montana, this is the fantasy of taming the bad boy with a woman that would usually be too sensible or scared to even try. She sees him as a beautiful distraction that could lead to her heartbreak if she gets attached. And how bad really is this mysterious man? It is told entirely in Ava's point of view so Kellan is an enigma and we find out his secrets just as she does.
It's an engaging, witty, passionate story about fate, wake-up calls, priorities, trust, and balance. Are there really coincidences or is there a bigger plan in place for all of us? These two are trying to navigate through their changing feelings and figure out what they really need in their lives to be happy and fulfilled. I enjoyed that there were a few surprises and twists.
The side characters of her crazy best friend, Mandy, and his cousin, Josh, and brothers Ryder and Cash open this story up to have more stand-alones in this setting and with these intriguing characters. The frantic pace of New York and the quiet, rugged comfort of Montana add to the overall feel of the story. I am interested to see where their stories might lead.
