Blog Tour: BOSSMAN: VI Keeland
RELEASING JULY 18TH!
The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn’t exactly make a good impression.
I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date.
He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.
So I told him to mind his own damn business—his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business—and went back to my miserable date.
When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date.
I couldn’t help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.
When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out.
But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us—telling elaborate, embarrassing stores about our fake childhood.
My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting.
When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I’d never see him again.
I mean, what were the chances I’d run into him again in a city with eight million people?
Then again…
What were the chances a month later he’d wind up being my new sexy boss?
Their initial impressions were not very positive, but he redeemed himself by saving her from a boring dinner date and winning her over. But little did Reese know that meeting Chase was really going to change her life and bring new opportunities.
Reese is smart, funny, sassy, hardworking, and honest. But she has some past issues that haunt her and cause anxiety. Her love life is lukewarm at best, and she is also in need of a new job.
Chase is bold, quick-witted, imaginative, sexy, and charming. He is also a rich, successful CEO of his own company. An opportunity to work there could be a great move for her...if she can just avoid the temptation of her hot new boss. She is determined to keep it professional, while he cannot stop the flirting and innuendo. This is the first woman that has sparked his true interest in years and he is ready to take full advantage of it. But he also has past demons that affect him.
They play off each other so well. The sexual tension and chemistry is sizzling. He challenges and pushes her, and she pushes right back. She is determined to be strong and not cave to his sex appeal, but he really tests her willpower. It's a battle of wills and negotiations. He tries hard to wear her down. New rules apply for when they are off the clock. He is persuasive and manages to make a deal with her without her even realizing that he has convinced her to do.
They are hot and combustible in the bedroom and have a natural easy going rapport out of it. But dealing with the forbidden office romance is not so easy. And their pasts have left them scarred and insecure at times. She's afraid of love and other things, and needs to feel safe. He has not been able to move on from his past, but is starting to feel alive again. But these two have to deal with some hard truths and issues. But to move forward they will have to open up, trust, and have hope. And it has to be sustainable during hard times as well as easy ones.
At one point, the whole tone of the book switched gears. There were some events and parts of this book that just broke my heart. It was especially hard to see the cocky, outgoing, sexy Chase be vulnerable and in pain. But he has a lot of guilt and past hurt that is hard to let go of, forgive, and move on from. And Reese's fears and insecurities are easily brought to the surface when she is kept in the dark.
This was humorous, steamy, romantic, heartbreaking, and emotional. It was told mostly in Reese's point of view in present with Chase's mixed in with past and a bit of present. But Chase's personality was so magnetic that he just shined when he was happy and you could feel his inner turmoil if he was upset. Reese was a good balance for him. They had compatible personalities and were able to develop a good understanding of each other's demons...unless the other refused to share. They certainly had to fight for their shot at making it work.
The side characters added humor, support, and tension. Even the ugly kitty had a stand out personality. The book built in layers as more and more emotional turmoil was added in over the witty banter and hot chemistry. It was a fast-paced and engaging ride with a surprising emotional punch. And I totally devoured it.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Their first meeting is not under ideal circumstances, but that’s ok, as Reese will never see the good looking man who berated her for sending an SOS text to get out of a bad first date. Except that she soon learns that the dashing, creative, handsome man is also her new boss.
As it becomes clear that they will have to work together, Reese decide to draw a line in the sand. She can’t afford to have anything to do with her boss. But Chase has other things in mind, and can’t seem to settle for the strictly professional relationship Reese is dictating. I loved the lengths he went to in order to get Reese to change her mind, without forcing her to do anything. He is such a charismatic character, that it was only a matter of time before her line faded away. And the chemistry between them is so strong, even from the beginning, that it was a matter of time before the lines were crossed.
Parts of the story were great. At times it was light & flirty and at others there was a lot of emotional depth to the tale. The banter between Chase and Reese is full of wit and quick quips that had me grinning. The flashback scenes added a depth I wasn’t really expecting from the story, but that made me love Chase more than I would have otherwise. The flashbacks also kept me turning pages to see how the past was going to collide with the present, as at times it wasn’t always clear how the events would impact.
There were a couple points that I wish had happened in the pages, but the explanation of events that happen “off-screen” are at least there. I just wished they had happened in a more direct manner so readers could have seen the interactions rather than hear about them off-handed, after the fact.
The side characters were a perfect match for the main characters. Both best friends were great counterpoints to their opposite. I couldn’t help but watch the action in the sidelines wondering how the secondary characters would influence the main characters’ decisions.

This was a fast paced, sexy, office read with a twist of humor. It was one of those books that just flowed, and when I was reading, the story flowed smooth and steady.

“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where—”
I froze.
The sight of Chase standing there was almost enough to knock me over. I’d secretly hoped to see him, yet never thought I actually would. What are the chances? I did a double take, sure I was seeing things. But it was him all right, in the flesh. And what flesh it is. Standing there shirtless and wet—wearing nothing but a pair of low-slung swim trunks—he had me stuttering. Literally.
“Ch…Ch…Ch—” I couldn’t get the word out.
Of course, Chase didn’t miss a beat. He smirked and leaned in. “You do a cute train impression, Buttercup.”
He remembers me.
I shook my head, attempting to snap myself out of it. But it was no use. He was so tall, and I was so short, I had no choice but to stare at his body. Water trickled down his abs. I was mesmerized watching it speed up and slow down as it crossed the rippled lines of his six-pack. Damn.
I cleared my throat and finally spoke. “Chase.” I was pretty freaking proud of myself for getting that much out. He had a towel slung around his neck and lifted it to dry off his dripping hair, revealing even more flesh. His pectoral muscles were carved and perfect. And—oh, my God…is that… Holy shit. It is. His nipples were cold and erect, and one of them was….was…pierced.
