ARC Review: Shadow Rider (Shadow #1) by Christine Feehan

by - Wednesday, August 10, 2016

The #1 New York Times bestselling “queen of paranormal romance”* is back with a sexy new series starring a Chicago crime family that hides a dark, mystical secret...

Whether it’s fast cars or fast women, Stefano Ferraro gets what he wants. When he’s not fodder for the paparazzi, he commands Ferraro family businesses—both legitimate and illegitimate.

While their criminal activity is simply a rumor yet to be proven, no one knows the real truth. The Ferraros are a family of shadow riders capable of manipulating light and dark, an ability Stefano thought ran in his family alone—until now…

With little left to her name, Francesca Cappello has come to Chicago in hopes of a new life. She wasn’t expecting to attract the attention of a man with primal hunger in his eyes, driven to claim her as his to protect and to please. And if he discovers her secret, it could ruin her.

I was really hoping this review would go a little something like this…

Yay, the old Feehan is finally back. Awesome start to her new series…

Unfortunately though, those aren’t the words I’ll be sharing with you. Instead, this review will briefly summarize the words I have used in many other reviews for her.

· No originality. No real intrigue or suspense to keep me from walking away.

· Our hero and heroine left much to be desired.

· Heroine had no backbone, while the hero was over the top domineering.

· Feehan’s repetitiveness is in full force once again.

· The over use of the words “his woman” “my woman” etc.

· Lots of sex being used to fill plot lines.

Shadow Riders wasn’t a horrible read, which is why it got 3 stars. It is quite cookie cutter in its formula, leaving me with that been there done this a million times over feeling. I think it may finally be time to walk away from this author before my love of her work disappears all together. Everything new doesn’t seem to capture my attention or even entice me. No new book boyfriends on the horizon. When I get the urge for some addicting paranormal, I’ll revisit Feehan’s old books.

Would I recommend it? Probably not. But I am just one person and each reader has their own tastes in books. This didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for others. If you’re new to Feehan’s books, start with either the Ghost Walkers or the Drake Sisters.

Thanks, Berkley Publishing Group, for the complimentary copy of Shadow Riders.

IN HER WORDS:

I am a mother, first and foremost in my life. Family is very important to me. I have several children all of whom drive me crazy on a daily basis. And I have four Maltese that are even worse. LOL! I love living in the country and I find that it continues to inspire my writing.. which is my ultimate passion in life.

I am a writer and have been almost my entire life. I have to write every day or I'll drive my family crazy. I first became a published author in 1999 with the release of Dark Prince. Before that I had a wide variety of jobs including being a full time mom, a martial arts instructor, a telephone operator, and I even worked for a newspaper. Now I’m able to write full time. I usually have four new books released per year. (www.christinefeehan.com)
