CHARMED FOR LIFE?

Thanos Agapiou has always been a charmer. For over two millennia, the vampire had no problem acquiring whom and what he wanted with a flash of his handsome smile. He took for granted the boyish good looks he presumed he’d possess for the rest of eternity.

How very wrong he was.

A nearly fatal attack distorted his entire existence. With his appearance now matching the title many have bestowed their kind—monster—he hides away from the world and all of those who know him, including his Ancient, Eton.
Until one night when a stranger draws him out from the shadows.

OR CURSED FOR ETERNITY?

Ever since Paris Antoniou was thrust into a world of vampires, his reality has become stranger than the history and the myths he’s studied for the past decade.

When he learns the truth about his origins and the power he wields, his confusion and fear have him running for his life. What he doesn’t expect is to run into the arms of Thanos—a vampire who doesn’t intimidate him as much as he intrigues him.

WHAT HAS THE POWER TO MAKE YOU WANT TO SURVIVE?

As their worlds collide under extraordinary circumstances, an attraction neither can deny takes hold. But will that be enough to save Thanos from his demons, or will he condemn Paris to his fate?

Destinies have been changed. Lines have been crossed. And, with tales of the vampire race coming to an end, who will make the ultimate sacrifice?

After all, in a world run by vampires and gods, only one can be the true Master among the Monsters.

This is the final installment in the Masters Among Monsters series. And although it is Thanos' story, it also progresses the stories of all of the main characters Alasdair, Leo, Vasilios, Isadora, Elias, Diomedes, Eton, and Paris. The mystery has built up during this series as we gradually learn more about this world of Gods, monsters, curses, and destiny.

Leo, Elias, and Paris apparently have a destiny to fulfill, but what happens when lines get blurred and they begin to try to exert their own free will? Decisions are made that could alter the course of what is supposed to be predestined. And it is unclear what kind of impact that will have on all of their lives. But it seems that instead of bringing the darkness and destruction that they were supposed to bring to the vampires, that the three might be providing inspiration and salvation that is having a more positive effect. The connections forming between the three and the vampires are becoming more intense and filling voids that they did not even know existed. But it is also causing more confusion and conflict.

Thanos' personal story is one that has been complicated and full of darkness. Both he and his sire, Eton, have sinister parts of themselves they usually manage to hide under charming and personable facades and their personal coping strategies. But with the results of a catastrophic event, Thanos was forever changed and so was his bond with Eton. Guilt, anger, self loathing, disgust, and  isolation make Thanos more miserable and brooding. He is unable to give the proper attention to his sire, Eton, who desperately needs him. We learn just how deep and unique their bond is.

Paris is the last of his three friends to be exposed to this frightening new world that he is now shocked to be a part of. But like his two friends, he eventually finds out he has a role to play. And Thanos seems to call to him, even when he is shutting everyone else out due to his pain and self isolation.

But every action made recently seems to be leading towards changing the dynamics of the unions and is beginning the increase the danger they face. It is chaotic, confusing, and could be catastrophic. And they are all just trying to deal with one situation at a time and regain some control.

This is told in the points of view of all of the main characters in the present as well as in many flashbacks to significant events. Everyone is invested and important to the big picture. There are threats against them all. No one is truly safe or protected.

This one is the finale of the Gods and monsters battling it out til the end. Will the three really fulfill their destiny of destroying the vampires, or will free will change it?

I was enthralled trying to see how it was all going to end as the tension ramped up and all of the conflicts rose to the surface. This was a group that could both be loyal and support each other, but also easily shift to violence or fighting each other. They are raw, primal, ruthless, sexual beings with intense personalities and quick reactions. But can they love or just possess?

And Paris, Leo, and Elias are also dealing with pressure from the Gods that wanted more from them than they might be willing to give, so they are starting to question everything even more. But  do they have any control or are they just puppets? Who are the real monsters?  Can prophecies and destinies be altered?

I am still reeling a bit from the two epilogues and how it all ended up. I was not sure where it was going, but I was surprised at the resolution...but not in a bad way.  I was satisfied with the story and how it developed. There was a lot going on with all of the characters and plot details past and present. And I enjoyed spending more time with this complex and interesting group that was still figuring out how they all fit together.

I do not read many paranormal books anymore, but this series was well written with characters and relationships that were well developed. I have become more attached to them in each book. The world building was detailed and layered between past and present and interwoven well within the three books. Thanos' story was tragic, violent, painful, and heartbreaking. But there were also glimpses of hope, true connections, healing, and acceptance. The over all story line built through the series was intricate, intriguing, and suspenseful, and  it finally came to a climax in this one.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

A TRAGIC BEGINNING…

Isadora Nikitas understands what it means to be betrayed. That lesson was taught to her in the prime of her life, and when she is offered a chance to exact revenge, she finds it difficult to refuse. Instead, she entrusts her survival to a mysterious vampire known only as Diomêdês, a male who wants nothing in return but to watch over her—in every way imaginable. Gifted with speed, strength, and immortality, she determines that her life will no longer be governed by the needs and wants of a mere man. She has cowered for the last time, and with her Ancient by her side, she thrives and blossoms into the most formidable female vampire in existence. But, once upon a time, like all little girls, Isadora believed in love. She believed it because she once had it. So, when it comes along a second time, she knows that it’s possible—but when you love someone, they become your weakness. Unless, in fact, they become your enemy instead…

A MYSTERIOUS PAST…

Fulfilling your life’s prophecy should be empowering. At least, that’s what Elias Fontana always believed. But, as he stands guard over the beautiful vampire he’s taken hostage, his convictions start to crumble. Made to believe by his creators that he and two others have been designed to destroy a dangerous race, he has difficulty connecting his current reality to the woman he once loved.

A TANGLED TALE TO UNRAVEL…

When friends become enemies and enemies become lovers, who can you trust in the webs of lies and despair? And, when your life is at stake and blood has been shed, how much are you willing to sacrifice to fulfill your destiny?
