A new standalone novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Vi Keeland
The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.
I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.
He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.
Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.
Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.
Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.
Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.
I was swindled out of ten grand.
The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.
I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.
I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.
The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.
The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.
And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.
This book was so much fun, so sexy, and had so much heart. There was more to it than I expected and I enjoyed every page.
Drew Jagger is a cocky, egotistical, intelligent, observant attorney. His history has made him wary of relationships and untrusting. He's a realist, if not a pessimist.
He never expected Emerie Rose to literally move into his office and his life. She's a transplant from Oklahoma and a bit naive about how New York works. She's sassy, smart, optimistic, and empathetic. She's a marriage counselor and more of an idealist.
Tight spaces, togetherness, strong opinions, sarcasm, and temptation can't be avoided. Their interactions are feisty, antagonistic, flirty, and sexually charged. They fuss, they fight, and it makes good foreplay. It's hard to resist the pull and they stumble into a physical relationship with neither of them really sure of what they are getting into.
But there are parts of Drew's life that he cannot control. It affects his every day life and also messes with his head. His issues cause him stress and worry. There was so much more to Drew than it seemed and he really touched my heart. Emerie has her own baggage and confused feelings about someone in her life. And Drew just adds to the complications.
They're never really cold and usually run more towards smoldering or smoking hot. But with such fire comes the risk of burn out or getting burned.
Drew hates to show fear, but failing at love is one thing that does scare him. Almost as much as trusting and taking a risk. And the closer he gets to Emerie, the more it becomes a real fear. But Emerie is used to being taken for granted and she is not going to settle for less than she deserves. But there is so much to balance and so much at stake.
I loved the side characters of Roman and Beck, and Drew's relationships with them. The main antagonist in this one made me so freaking mad. I liked the dual points of view, the fun banter, and their dynamics. It was fast-paced, funny, intense, passionate, and emotional. Drew was in-your-face, outspoken, bossy, dirty talking and demanding, but he also had such a big heart, capacity to love, and was so generous. I adored him, And Emerie was capable, strong, fiery, and could take him on. I loved these two and this story with its surprises, twists, and turns.
This is easily my favorite book from Vi Keeland. There was so much going on here, that it wasn’t just a simple romance between an incredibly sexy man and a woman who follows her heart.
I wasn’t actually sure I was going to like Emerie at first. She followed her heart to New York, even though he hadn’t given her anything but platonic attention. She may not have been from small town Oklahoma, but she sure learned a few huge lessons as an introduction to New York life.
Drew wasn't expecting to find a squatter in his office upon returning from vacation, but feeling sorry for her offered a deal in exchange for her staying a few months. Yes, he felt sorry for her, but she also fell nicely into his sexy, librarian infatuation, so keeping her around didn’t put him out at all.
Drew is not always easy to like either. He pulls no punches and works hard to make sure his male clients get as much out of their divorce settlements as possible. He is not an easy man to deal with, especially when his ex is pulling stunts with his custody and visitation.
These two have fantastic chemistry. Even as they are startled to find the other in their first meeting, they can see beyond the surprise and stress to the attraction that sparks almost instantly. But they are looking for two different things out of a relationship, so are convinced that things would never work.
I wasn’t always a fan of what some of the side characters were doing in relation to Emerie and Drew, but I absolutely loved Roman. From his interference in their relationship, to his loyalty to Drew, Roman is the best friend every man should have. I would love to see him take center stage, but also loved his influence in these pages.
This whole book was just so much fun. From the moment Drew breaks into Emerie’s office...or, Drew finds Emerie camped out in his, this book entertained and transported me into it’s world. I loved watching Drew with his son. The twists and turns from that aspect of the story were what really pulled my heartstrings and gave the story that extra special touch.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
