Some men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry John Edgar Thomas Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.

He’s not handling it well.

Hoping to help her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora agrees to give him "space"—but while the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:

Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.

A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world's most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.

While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.

The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit... and her naughty sense of humor.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.

As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.

Henry Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, never intended to be the heir to the throne. But thanks to his older brother, Nicholas abdicating for love, it is precisely where he ended up. But he has always been the playboy charmer who never had  the same responsibilities and has not studied politics. So he has been thrown into the deep end and is under tremendous pressure. He is fearful of failing and letting down his family and country.

But when in need of a distraction, he agrees to something that could either be a big success or terrible failure...being the bachelor on Matched : Royal Edition to find a possible suitable mate. What could possibly go wrong? Of course, in true reckless Henry style, it is kept a secret to those closest to him.

Henry never expected that the one woman to catch his eye would be the one not trying to. Lady Sarah Titebottum just came along to support her gregarious sister who is part of the show. Sarah is a quiet, shy librarian and the timing of this escape also happened to be good for her as well. She devours books with complex heroes and great love stories. She's smart, witty, and has a bashful charm about her that draws Henry in...friendship, to sharing secrets, to finding a love connection. But they are also caught up in the web of chaos that is being built on the reality TV set and all that comes along with it.

What started out as a distraction and game for Henry becomes the thing distracting him from who he really wants. Sarah is inexperienced and somewhat naive, but these new experiences also push her in ways she never expected. And Henry is left trying to juggle all of the pieces in his life and keep it all together while minimizing any fall out.

This is modern day fairy tale of  how the wild, naughty Prince is tamed by the unassuming, serious girl. And how her belief in him and acceptance of him changes him. This is truly Henry's journey of self actualization and trying to figure out how to be the man he wants to be. But he also encourages her to come out of her shell to show her own hidden strength and bravery. They are a study in opposites, but also challenge and balance each other. I loved both of these characters and their dynamics.

Through it all they find a connection, companionship, and chemistry that is hard to contain. There is more to Henry than just his charm and wit. He's kind, generous, caring, and protective. He feels things deeply. But his fears and insecurities have been holding him back. and he has a strong fear of failure and letting people down. But Sarah's belief in him sets off a chain of events that no one would see coming. And Sarah has always felt like the plain girl that no one really sees or hears. But together they have potential to be more and do more, if they can just grasp on and believe. But real life is not always like a fairy tale.

It's an engaging, romantic tale of the popular, beloved royal hero and the sweet, shy girl that captures his attention and his heart. It is told in dual points of view. There is humor, fun, passion, and little adventures along the way. There are surprises and twists, some drama and a bit of angst. Henry is a work in progress and is definitely not perfect. But I adored him. And this is surely the type of romance that makes us all swoon over Princes and royalty and makes us want to believe in true love. I enjoyed getting more with the characters from Royally Screwed and I am looking forward to Royally Endowed

Prince Henry Pembrook isn't used to being watched so closely. He isn't used to making decisions, isn't used to leading. But when his brother abdicated the throne, he was expected to step up and perform as if he had been planning for this all his life. What was supposed to be a distraction from the pressures turns out to be the distraction as he jumps into a reality show to find a bride fit to be a princess.

Sarah Von Titebottom is happiest beyond the spotlight, as far from the center of attention as she can get. A shy librarian, she is only on the show to keep an eye on her wild sister. In the chaos of filming, Sarah becomes Henry’s quiet place, where he goes to get away from the cameras and the women for a bit. Late night conversations turn a new friendship into more as the show goes on around them.

It was intriguing to learn more about Sarah as the story progressed. The reasons for her shyness, her past, their chemistry: it all intrigued me and kept me turning the pages. Henry was an entertaining lead as well, with his almost frenetic energy at first, taming to a comfortable level as he began to find his footing as next in line to the crown.

This was a smooth read in that the drama wasn't contrived or over the top. It fit with the reality tv atmosphere and didn't overwhelm the plot with unnecessary angst. The show definitely ramped up the drama and kept things moving, but I loved the quiet moments when it was just Henry and Sarah behind closed doors the most.

These two are nearly opposites and the juxtaposition of some of their character traits made for even more entertaining reading. This was a lighthearted read with plenty of humor and antics as so many women vie for the attention of the prince: all the women around him except the one he wants to notice him.

Royally Screwed (Royally #1)
Our reviews

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn't bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

Dating a prince isn't what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There's a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they've traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven't chopped anyone's head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it.

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King... or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

A boy from the wrong side of the tracks...

But these days he covers his tattoos with a respectable suit. He’s charismatic, good looking, smart and trustworthy—any girl would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one girl he wants.

She’s an angel on earth, his living, breathing fantasy. For years he’s known her, sometimes laughed with her, once shared a pint with her...he would lay down his life for her.

But she doesn’t see him—not really.

A girl endowed with royal relations . . .

She dreams of princes and palaces, but in her quest for happily ever after, harsh truths are learned: castles are drafty, ball gowns are a nuisance, and nobility doesn’t equal noble intentions.

In the end, she sees her true heart’s love may just be the handsome, loyal boy who’s been beside her all along.
