A deadly secret can't stay buried forever . . .

Revenge. It's the only thing that will help Anya Best sleep at night. The serial killer who murdered her sister is on the loose, and Anya will stop at nothing to put him behind bars-even use herself as bait to lure him out of hiding. But she can't do this alone.

Private investigator Heath Jones's job is to bring bastards to justice. This time it's personal. He knew the Copper Killer's latest victim so when her sister asks for his help, he's all in. But when Anya uses the media to taunt the killer, she exposes Heath's identity, putting them both in jeopardy. Now, secrets buried long ago are coming to light and the forces determined to destroy him are watching Heath's every move, waiting to exact their own revenge. And they'll use anything and anyone to get to Heath.

With twists and turns that will take your breath away, LETHAL LIES is sexy, action-packed suspense at its very best from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti.

This continues the overall story arc from Deadly Silence involving the hunt for a serial killer as well as the brothers' past coming for them.

Heath Jones is a PI working with his adopted brothers. They have been working this serial killer case along with the FBI and Heath has become nearly obsessed with it and each loss. Heath is usually the calmer and in control brother. He's always been a savior and protector. But it seems they are one step behind this killer.

Anya Best is the target. She has lost everyone she cares about and feels guilty about the fact that her sister paid the price. She is a professor of psychology and profiler so she does have some important skills. In a bold move, Anya decides to publicly taunt the killer and ends up pulling Heath right in even deeper and putting a bigger target on both of their backs.

Anya is not just beautiful, intelligent, and fragile. She has an inner strength, determination, sense of justice, and bravery about her. All characteristics that send Heath's instincts and attraction into overdrive. She brings out his protective, possessive, and passionate tendencies and breaks down his control. She is determined to put herself as bait, while Heath and his brothers are determined to keep her safe. Heath has his secrets and is also dealing with threats from his past that won't seem to stop coming for them. And with the media attention surrounding them, it is sending a beacon to their enemies. She is determined to get him to trust her and share the truth. I liked them together and how they challenged each other.

They are working in gray areas and not exactly following the letter of the law or fully assisting the government agencies placing them under some suspicion. They have to be careful about what information is shared and who they can trust. There are multiple antagonists and threats with various motives. There is a big build up to the mystery of the identity of the serial killer and what his/her motivations are. So there is an increase in mystery, tension, emotional connection, danger, and action.

Heath and Anya have hot chemistry. She pushes and challenges him. But he just feels he needs to keep her safe and that he is not a good bet. He tries hard not to lose control with her, but she enjoys pushing his buttons. And a man can only resist so much. She's bold and fearless. He's strong and determined. Their situation seems bleak at times, and hope and keeping their wits bout them is all they can do to prepare.

I enjoy this world that Rebecca Zanetti created with the Sin Brothers and continued in this spin-off series. I liked getting more with Ryker, Zara, Denver, and the small cameos from the Gray brothers. I love their camaraderie, dynamics, and dedication to one another. There are plenty of dangerous enemies and psychos to hate. There are multiple threats and some surpises.

I will admit that at times this one seemed slow paced and long. Not sure if it was because of the gradual build and slow burn...or the fact this one focused more on the serial killer story than the first book and maybe since that is not my favorite story line it just made it seem that way. One story arc is concluded sufficiently, but one is still definitely ongoing. And that threat is not just coming from one source. Overall it was a slower-build mystery and romantic suspense story with some twists and turns.

Denver's story has been teased and I am looking forward to him hopefully reuniting with his lost love. And I am sure danger and drama will follow.

Lethal Lies is another fast paced story from Zanetti. Continuing the Lost Boys’ stories as a spin-off from the Sin Brothers, this moves the series arch along while giving great focus to one couple. I was pulled quickly back into the world as if I had never left it.

Anya Best didn’t know how she was targeted, but the Copper Killer seems to be stalking her. A stunt to lure the killer puts her in the middle of a power struggle between the FBI and the Lost Boys Detective Agency.

Anya was a little on the rash side, but her actions were always driven by her need to find the Copper Killer. Though she often acted quickly and against the word of Heath or the FBI, she understood the mind she was trying to lure, even if she didn’t know the identity of the man.

Heath hadn’t planned on being quite so personally involved in the Copper Killer case, nor did he appreciate the publicity Anya’s stunt brought to him and his brothers. He has always been a protector, looking out for those who couldn’t. The target Anya has painted on her own back, as well as unknowingly on the backs of all three brothers, has him itching to keep everyone around him safe.

Anya and Heath fell a little fast with their intense emotions, but both have reasons for not wanting anything serious. They do a good job of attempting to slow things down, but with the ruse they have to pull off, they can’t keep things detatched even behind closed doors.

It was as much the plot that kept me turning pages here as it was the main couple themselves. There is so much development, from the Copper Killer case to avoiding Dr. Madison and her lackeys, that something is always happening. Even when it appears to be smooth sailing, there are pieces being moved that become clear later.

I love these brothers each time I get to visit their world. The epilogue and last few chapters have me anticipating Denver’s book and the danger that still faces the brothers and the women they love.

She swallowed and met his gaze. “All right. Let me get this straight. We’re going undercover to flush out a killer who’s obsessed with me, and you’re offering to play at being my man for real with no strings or future?” She hoisted the bag onto her shoulder. “That’s some ego. Are you that good in bed?”
“Yes.” And that was definite interest in her eyes.
She clicked her tongue. “I’ll keep your offer in mind.”
“You do that.” He maintained a low and calm voice. “While you’re considering, let’s look at the situation. You have publicly made me your fiancé in order to draw out a killer, which means I have to act as such. Any halfway intelligent law enforcement officer or private investigator would keep his redheaded fiancée very close after the stunt you just pulled. If you’re not with me, the killer is going to be very suspicious.”
She stilled, expressions crossing her face rapidly. “That’s a good point,” she said slowly.
Yeah. Sometimes reality helped him out a little. Plus, the killer had a hard-on for her, and he must already have plans to take her at some point. She’d just upped the timeline. “In addition, you need protection around the clock now, and I’m willing to provide that. So while you’re keeping my offer in mind, we’ll be staying in the same hotel room or same apartment.” He made sure he had her full attention. “While we plan the wedding, of course.”
Her challenging smile thrilled something inside him. “That’s fair.”
He stepped back to give her some space. “Good. Are you ready?”
“Yes.” She looked around the room. “I do have to ask. What if I didn’t agree with you about your keeping secrets from me? Considering people shoot at you, and I’m going to be at your side, it seems fair that you tell me who these people are.” She cocked her head to the side and focused back on him.
“I have more immediate concerns than being fair,” he said smoothly. “You brought me into this mess.”
A frown drew down her eyebrows. “Listen. I want an answer about you.”
“I just gave you one.” At her mulish expression, he searched for better words that wouldn’t end in an argument.
Suddenly, the door blew wide open and bounced loudly off the table. “Anya!” he yelled, jumping for her.
