Winning has always come naturally for stud ice hockey defenseman Gus “the Bus” Persson. On the ice or off, he’s never had any trouble scoring, racking up goals—and girls. This is a story of two people who did not look like a match at all. Gus "Bus" Persson is a rookie defenseman for the Malibu Suns farm team while waiting to move up to the Twin Cities Tornadoes. He seems to be cocky, rich, confident, and a show-off. He follows the "one and done" rule and never goes back for seconds.

Bo St. James is an Ice Girl and physical therapy student. She hates manwhores, cocky men, and rookies, and does not do relationships casual or otherwise. She has history that has made her put up guards. 

He is everything she hates. She ignores, fights, and resists. She is the prize he is determined to win with persistence. It's distraction, attraction, and lust.  

And through a series of events and misadventures they begin to bond. Hate turns to "not-hate" then "like". They push and challenge each other.  They are typically "non-daters" dating and living in the now. But there is danger of pesky feelings getting involved. And their futures may look much different than where they are now.

Can they move on from their pasts, to keep the happiness they found in the now in the future?

They are an unlikely couple of commitment-phobes that crash into each other's lives. Gus really grew on me and had a charming, vulnerable, and loving core. And Bo was skittish and had issues, but was likable. Together they were really dynamic between the antagonism to flirting to lust to can't-get-enough-of-each other. And they were both not looking for anything, but somehow found something that surprised them. But there are secrets and challenges and a bunch of unknowns that could end them before they can really define what they are. 

This is a feisty, flirty, sexy, sweet hockey romance with humor and heart. It's got fun banter, good chemistry, and plenty of feels. It is set in a whole new hockey world for Toni Aleo, so I wonder if she might expand on these teams in the future.

Gus is working for his big break. As his team’s number one draft pick, he is confident in his abilities on and off the ice. He has no trouble getting women, except when it comes to one particular ice girl who has caught his eye.

Bo has been burned by a hockey jock before and isn’t interested in repeating history. Her life is too full for guys anyway. Between taking classes, giving lessons, and working as an ice girl, she doesn’t have any free time.

This was full of fun banter as Bo worked to keep herself from falling for Gus’s charms. Their banter shifts from the initial sparks into fiery chemistry as Bo starts to let down her walls as a result of Gus’s persistence and effort to win her over.

The misadventures they face as Gus works to convince Bo to let him in had me both laughing and shaking my head. These two can’t catch a break, it seems. Both the humorous and serious calamities that befall them kept me turning pages and thoroughly entertained.

This is a new hockey world for Toni Aleo. I kept waiting for her familiar characters to make a cameo, but it was also nice to see a different part of the country and a new team forming through this story.
