From USA Today bestselling author Katie Reus comes the next story in the explosive Redemption Harbor series where sparks fly and so do bullets…

The one woman he wants…

When a childhood friend needs help, Nova doesn’t hesitate. They endured the foster system together, forging a bond Nova can’t ignore. Relying on her friends from Redemption Harbor Consulting—including Gage, the computer genius she’s falling for—is out of the question. She used to work for the CIA and she’s trained—she can handle this. Besides, the whole team is working on their own important jobs. She’s not going to drag anyone away when she’s not sure it’s necessary.

Is the one he can’t have…

When Nova asks for time off out of the blue—and use of the company jet—former Marine Gage takes note. Of course, he notices everything about Nova. But as one of her bosses, his growing attraction to her is a line he won’t cross. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll let her run straight into danger—and a quick hack of her computer proves she’s gotten in over her head. Gage is coming along for the ride, whether the sassy assistant likes it or not. He’ll do whatever’s necessary to save her friend…and keep Nova out of the clutches of a lethal enemy who won’t hesitate to kill anyone who gets in their way.

Author note: This is a stand-alone novel in the Redemption Harbor series complete with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

I was looking forward to Gage and Nova's story. They have gone from verbally sparring to friends since she joined the Redemption Harbor team as their assistant. But as an ex-CIA agent, she has her own skills. She is outspoken, sarcastic, clever, and caring. They have been pushing each other's buttons since their first interaction.

But in Gage's eyes, she is off limits to him because he is one of the owners and they are friends. Gage is the team computer whiz and tech guru. He is sexy, smart, adaptable, and protective. He has his issues that make him put up walls, but Nova has the ability to chip away at them.

When Nova's best friend is in trouble, he will not let her go without back up. And when things get more dangerous and complicated than they could imagine, they will have to prove they trust each other and rely on the other. With adrenaline and emotions running high, it will be hard to avoid their sizzling chemistry and attraction. But while dealing with their own personal issues, they are also trying to save her friend and deal with new enemies.

Gage will stop at nothing to keep her safe, but will he be able to? And will he be able to trust her with his heart?

This brings back most of the Redemption Harbor group and some of their contacts in other agencies. It is told in multiple points of view giving us insight to the antagonist as well as protagonists. It is a sexy and suspenseful friends-to-lovers story. They are likable and have snappy banter and hot chemistry. I thought it started out really strong with some surprises I did not see coming, but then it kind of moved a bit fast towards the last half. I would have liked a bit more development in the transition in their relationship and in the resolution of the plot. But I enjoyed the story and and loved Gage and Nova together. I like that these can be read as stand-alones, but I love seeing the characters interact and crossover. Leighton is featured prominently in this one and his book will be the next one in the series.

Nova doesn’t hesitate when her childhood friend requests her to visit. Based on the message, Nova knows she can’t ignore the request. She doesn’t want to bother her coworkers, and with her CIA background she figures she can handle whatever she will find when she gets to her friend.

Gage recognizes the unusual nature of her request and insists on joining her, especially as he learns who she is going to be facing. He has always been attracted to Nova, but has kept his feelings to himself because of his role as one of her bosses. The close quarters and high danger they find makes him question why he has kept it a secret, but he will do anything to keep Nova and her friend safe.

As usual, Katie creates a story with the right amount of heat, danger, tension, and entertainment. Nova and Gage have both hidden feelings, and traveling together and the situations they encounter force them to face what they have been hiding. But the situations also stretch their abilities to remain calm in the face of all the threats, known and unknown.

The story moved quickly, with twists and turns coming as a surprise in several places. I like that this series stands alone and I can go some time between readings without feeling like I am missing something about the characters. I loved the build up of the story as they each decided how much they could trust the other. The end did come up quickly and (as I often say) I could have used more during the final scenes, but I also know I will get to see these characters in the background of future Redemption Harbor stories so will wait patiently for Leighton’s story to see them again.
