The Truth About Us
Release Date September 13, 2018

Truth: Penn Walker entered my life like a summer storm—dark, ominous, and filled with thunder.
After witnessing my husband’s murder, I didn’t have much of a heart left to offer a man.

But Penn took it all.
Every jagged shard.
Every broken bit.
Even the dirty and twisted pieces that I wish never existed.

Lie: I didn’t need him to save me.
Lie: I knew exactly who he was.
Lie: Losing him wouldn’t destroy me.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

Lies were light and fluffy. Made to order. Easy to Digest. Impossible to hold on to. But the truth was dense. A boulder made of magnets, the Earth being the north to its south. The truth could crush a person with nothing more than reality.

Book one, The Truth About Lies, blew me away and I could not wait to get more of Cora and Penn's story. This is the epic conclusion of their duet. It totally captivated and consumed me. It kept me up way too late. There are so many twists and turns that it kept me surprised.

Cora is dealing with the repercussions of events that happened at the end of the first book. And although she is running through a gamut of intense emotions, she is also questioning things. She is upset and grieving, but she is also angry, hurt, and feels lied to and underestimated. It seems like men keep sacrificing themselves for her, but at the same time she is a strong, smart, independent woman who has been taking care of herself and others for a long time even in the worst of circumstances. But after recent events she is starting to think that maybe it is finally her chance to be free and more empowered. But she knows there is more to the story than she is being told.

"That's the thing about lies....They taint the truth until you have no idea what to believe."

There is drama, suspense, danger, action, and surprises. It brings back all of the characters, good and bad. There are perceived betrayals, face-offs, altercations, and seriously dire situations. But there are also reunions and reconnections. And finding good in the midst of bad. There is the new and real potential for hope, healing, and maybe even moving forward.

Cora just wants a slow, simple, safe life where she can finally have a chance to follow her dreams and take care of those she loves. Will her new protectors be able to give her that or will her past keep nipping at her heels?

The first book established the background, characters, and motivations and began the events that would change their lives. This is the aftermath...trying to figure out how to complete the final steps needed for freedom and how to deal with all of the issues and emotions resulting from decisions that were made. And it is full of tension, suspense, and action.

I was so invested in these characters and caught up in this story. There were some things that totally took me by surprise and I love it when that happens. I enjoy stories where there is so much going on under the surface. This book was full of layers, hidden agendas, secrets, omissions, lies, and truths. And these characters were challenged and tested beyond belief. But sometimes there are silver linings in the darkest of situations. I loved that this duet was unique, intense, a bit out of normal comfort zones, and unpredictable. It was another fantastic, mesmerizing read that did not disappoint even with my high expectations.

Spoiler-free review! (I’m not saying much to keep it that way!)

Cora’s world is tipped upside down with the events at the end of The Truth About Lies. When The Truth About Us picks up she is trying to make sense of her new situation, trying to find a way to move on despite the changes she has no choice but to accept.

I loved watching events unfold throughout this book. Cora’s grief is all consuming at first. She is struggling with her own feelings about the events, as well as trying to start over and find that quiet life she has always dreamed of. That quiet life is still a few steps out of reach as secrets are revealed that once again stir up danger she thought was in the past.

The conclusion of the Truth Duet is exactly what I was hoping for and more for the finale of Cora’s story. The twists and turns were even more unexpected than those from The Truth About Lies. Where I saw part of the ending of Lies coming, I didn’t see anything about the end of Us coming. I was caught off guard and completely surprised. This was the perfect conclusion for the arch that began in Lies.

This is a story full of suspense, suspicion, drama and at last resolution. There are so many secrets swirling around, especially at the beginning, that I couldn’t help but be sucked into this world completely. I loved the way the secrets were revealed, that the emotions played out.

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.

Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.

Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.
Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
