The Wellington Way. My mother's favorite motto wasn't something I bought into, even after watching each of my cousins fall hard and fast for their women.
That all changed the night Alyssa Covington came into my life like a whirlwind, showing me exactly what I'd been missing. It took just one night for her to knock me on my ass, twist me inside out, and fall head over cock.
The morning after? She left without a second glance in her rearview mirror. Fortunately for me, her sister's marrying my cousin, and there's no way she can escape me now.
The only problem?
She wants nothing to do with me.
Little does Alyssa know, I never give up, even if I have to fight dirty.
**
My sister told me there was nothing like loving a Wellington. I didn’t buy it.
Until I found out that stranger I gave my virginity to? Shane Wellington.
He’s the antithesis of my dream man, yet it took just one night for me to become addicted. Unfortunately for us, that perfect night led to a disastrous morning after and I did what I do best. I ran, fooling myself by thinking I could quickly get him out of my system.
When circumstances throw us together again, I can't forget the time we spent together. His piercing blue eyes hold me hostage, and I know the truth.
Shane and I aren't over. Oh no, we've just begun.
The only problem?
It doesn't matter what I want.
I can have nothing to do with him.
What happens when the perfect one-night stand just isn't enough?

I will start by saying that I loved Tessa Teevan's Explosive and Wellingtons series so the characters are familiar and much loved. But I will admit since the timeline of this and some events parallel the the last Wellingtons book that came out four years ago, that my brain was a bit fuzzy on some of the old plots. And since this one follows around a year in time, there is some time jumping and progression in the other books that has to be noted but the author does share the pertinent things. But because of that sometimes it felt a bit choppy and I had to get my bearings.

Shane Wellington is cousin to Branson, Knox, and Cohen Wellington. He is CFO at Wellington Enterprises and is hands on in the business. He was not looking for love and hoped to avoid the "Wellington Way" fable in his family about love at first sight. But when he is in Florida working on  a property he meets Alyssa Covington.

She is just finishing up school and gearing up for more responsibility in her CPA job so was ready for a fun time in Florida. She has not had luck with men, sex, or relationships and would like to at least have a little sexy fun on vacation. She found the perfect fling in Shane, but circumstances and some issues kept them from exploring more than a couple days.

But these two have a hard time getting each other out of their heads. Thus begins a year of running, avoidance, near misses, chasing, little white lies, and long lasting lust. And it is a bit more complicated than they even expected between work rivalries and unexpected connections. They have some conflicts they need to work through to see if they can take their spark and make it into something more long lasting.

I have always enjoyed Tessa Teevan's writing style and it is easy to get sucked into her world.  This covers the love story of two Wellington cousins struck down by insta-connection with two sisters, but it took time for things to start to work out. Branson's book Conflagration was my favorite so I enjoyed revisiting his story. I liked spending time with the other Wellington men Knox and Cohen and their new significant others, as well as Lexi and Jace, Sierra and Jeremy, and Sawyer and Cheyenne from other books. It is fun how they interconnect in various ways. But I think it would have been easier to follow and read if it had come out closer to the other books, but sometimes that just cannot be helped and I am glad that we finally got Shane's story. And the author does do a pretty good job of explaining events as needed.

I am intrigued by Alyssa's friend Bryan and his old room mate Cori that keep circling around each other, so hopefully might see them in a future book.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Shane is the last single Wellington and is determined that he not fall prey to what his mother and aunt refer to as inevitable: that he will meet his match and never be the same. His focus is entirely on running the family business and he is happy with the direction things are rolling.

Alyssa is introduced to the Wellingtons by way of her sister, who more or less ran away with Branson. She is only looking for a week of relaxation at the beach before her sister gets married, but through a series of events finds herself spending time with an attractive man instead.

This chance encounter allows them to explore their explosive chemistry, but when they connect the dots in their real world they have to put the brakes on things. The circumstances have them circling each other, tempted to dive in but hesitating because of the possible consequences. When they make the connection that not only are they competing professionally, but will be connected through family as well, they embark on a journey that will only stir the conflict between them further.

My biggest challenge with this book had nothing to do with the characters or plot. With 4 years between the release of Conflagration and Conflict, it took me a good chunk of this book to refresh my memory about who was who and what the set up for Shane and Alyssa was from the previous book. There were glimpses of something going on in the background of Conflagration, and because this one runs concurrently to it, I knew I should know more about them than I could remember.

Once I had oriented myself to how everyone was related and their individual backstories, I was able to let go and immerse myself in this world. These characters are truly likeable. Shane’s conviction that he will not find the Wellington way his mom preaches means he doesn’t fight when she puts work first. Her desire to prove herself at work has her maintaining a grueling pace at work as she tries to impress her bosses and the clients.

The Wellingtons series is a spin off of the Explosive Series

Tessa Teevan is a book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. She’s a research analyst by day, reads/writes by night, and is married to a guy 15 inches taller than her, making them quite the pair!

They currently reside just outside of Dayton, OH with two adorably grumpy cats. If she’s not writing or scouring through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find her curled up with her Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. She loves her sports almost as much as she loves her books. Her other obsessions include red wine, hot men, rock music, and all things Corey Taylor.

She adores hearing from readers, so please feel free to contact via any social media site!
