Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning.

I was late for the first day at my new job—a job I’d now have to compete for even though I’d already worked eight years to earn it, because of an unexpected merger.
While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons.

She’d ticketed a long line of cars—except for the Audi parked in front of me, which happened to be the same make and model as mine.

Annoyed, I decided to regift my ticket to the car that had evaded a fine.  Chances were, the owner would pay it and be none the wiser.

Except, I accidentally broke the windshield wiper while slipping the ticket onto the car’s window.

Seriously, my day couldn’t get any worse.

Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the elevator.  We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies.

You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity.

His heated stare left me flush when I stepped off the elevator.

Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Or so I thought.

Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competition.

The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heated stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction.  It was because he’d saw me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival.

There’s a fine line between love and hate—and we shouldn’t cross it.

We shouldn’t—but straddling that line could be so much fun.

Annalise O'Neil is starting a new job since the ad agency she worked for has merged with another. She did not realize she was going to put into a competition to keep her job. And she certainly never dreamed that her new nemesis would be tall, dark, handsome, and arrogant.

Bennett Fox has worked hard to earn his position and has no plans to lose it or get relocated. He is confident, sarcastic, and cocky. He has a way with the ladies and knows how to use it to his advantage. But Annalise is smart, intuitive, sassy, and determined to win her chance at his job. I liked that she was strong and stood up for herself, but also was a bit quirky.

They seem like opposites. She is organized, structured, and a bit uptight. He is easy going, funny, and thinks outside the box. Together they spark and verbally spar that acts as foreplay, and have strong chemistry that only seems to get more heated due the not-so-friendly competition.

But Bennett's facade hides some secrets, deeper hurts, and reasons that he does not get close to women. And Annalise is just getting over a broken long term relationship. There is so much wrong that they really shouldn't, but they really can't help it.

It's a fast-paced, feisty, flirty, funny, sexy, and emotional enemies-to-lovers story. Their chemistry and attraction cannot be denied, but neither can the fact that Bennett is not looking for love. They push and challenge each other. There is a lot of push and pull. But they will both need to face their own issues and truths to even begin to figure out where they could end up.

As in most of this author's books, there is a bit of mystery in the backstory that is slowly revealed and the character's issues and vulnerabilities stem from it. I enjoyed seeing under Bennett's facade to his true heart. There were more facets to his character than it initially seemed, but in the beginning it was a bit hard to warm up to him. I did really like his relationship with Lucas and her supportive best friend, Madison.

Annalise isn’t having the best first day, especially because she is on her way to the first day after her company merged with another, larger firm. But the hottie in the elevator at least gave her something to smile about -- at least until she discovered the hottie is the enemy she will be competing to keep her local job rather than being shipped off to Dallas.

Bennett has worked hard to get where he is in his company and isn’t about to let the merger ruin his plans or send him to another city.

These two are polar opposites in the office. Annalise is organized, methodical, and befriends everyone around her. Bennett keeps his distance, and has a looser process. They both work hard and focus on the tasks before them, and neither is willing to let the other win easily.

As Bennett and Annalise compete for the same position, the tension due to a mutual attraction ramps up. But Bennet doesn’t do relationships, and Annalise isn’t interested in jumping into anything with a rogue like Bennett. These two struggle to balance the innate chemistry between them and the need to compete to stay in the city that means different things to each of them.

There were times I grew tired of the push of “we shouldn’t” whenever things would start ramping up between them. The chemistry was so great between them, that it frustrated me when they would use the job, or Bennett’s reputation, or Annalise’s previous relationship as a reason they shouldn’t pursue anything. I also struggled with Bennett for much of the book. Normally I don’t mind a character with his determination and mindset, but in this case he did so much flip flopping between being helpful and being a jerk that I really had a hard time feeling sympathy for him or even liking him until well into the story.

The side characters added a lot of depth to the story, and I particularly loved Bennett’s time with Lucas. Other side characters were a great support and also a source of contention between them. The potential clients even proved to move the story along more than I initially anticipated.

This is a book full of push and pull between two people competing to hold on to what has always mattered most to them: their position in the company. It is fun, and feisty. They have great banter, and the unresolved tension only ratchets up the drive of the competition between them.
