When we were eleven, Oliver Ford Pemberton dared me to jump off a barn roof. He said you couldn’t break a leg from a 12-foot-jump.
He lied.
(You can also break a collarbone, which served him right as far as I was concerned.)
I wish I could say it was the last dare I ever took from him, the last bet I ever made with him, the last time I ever trusted Oliver Ford Pemberton.
But it wasn’t.
Because he had the nerve to grow up gorgeous, charming, and sexy. And as we got older, the dares only got dirtier—and the betting stakes higher—until finally, he left me in pieces. I swore I’d never talk to him again.
But twenty years after I took that flying leap, he’s back in my life, daring me to risk everything for him: my job, my self-worth, and my heart.
How many chances does love deserve?
He lied.

How many chances does love deserve?
Chloe Sawyer does the PR and marketing for Cloverleigh Farms, but she also has her own dreams of starting a distillery. Her parents suggest an idea to her to make it happen faster. It would be all fine and good if it did not involve Oliver Pemberton, the man she is still angry with and has not spoken to in seven years.
Chloe and Oliver have a long history...since birth. As kids they were frenemies always getting into trouble and breaking rules. He always taunted her into situations that had consequences. They were the rule breakers, risk takers, and often jumped without thinking.
And as they got older, he would pull her in to more closely, get her hopes up, and then eventually hurt her feelings. She was outspoken and impulsive. He was selfish, immature, untrustworthy, and not sure what he wanted out of life. They ran hot and cold...pleasure and pain. And she made a vow not to let him hurt her again. After all, once a liar, always a liar...
But now he is back and dangling the perfect opportunity at her. And he is being the charming, irresistible man that always gets to her. They still challenge each other and have amazing chemistry. They know each other deep down...all the good and the bad. And as he strives to break down her walls and ask for another chance, will she be willing to take a risk on trusting him again knowing she is usually the one that gets burned? How many second chances does on man deserve?

These two were kind of a mess, and the book was angsty and had good banter. I liked Chloe. She was smart (at least in business), outspoken, and knew what she wanted. She was impulsive and had bad judgment at times, but it was more that she was lead by her heart and not her head. Now Oliver kind of rubbed me the wrong way several times with his avoidance behavior and skirting of the truth. And he did toy with her emotions even if he did not mean to and was also caught up in the moment and then his own fears. His hit and runs with her did not endear him to me. But I did like their chemistry, and by the end I was willing to forgive him and was rooting for him to really prove himself to Chloe.
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Fueled by pent-up lust and scotch, we stumbled into Oliver’s room and tore at each other’s clothes. It was hot and rough and a little bit violent, as if we were furious we hadn’t been able to keep our hands to ourselves and wanted to take it out on one another’s bodies. We pushed and pulled and growled and grasped. We called each other names and cursed viciously. We knocked over a lamp and ripped Oliver’s shirt.
When we finally exploded together, Oliver had me up against the door, and if our yelling didn’t wake the entire floor, then the pounding must have. I’d have bruises for days.
Afterward, we collapsed on the bed, naked and sweaty and exhausted.
“Oh my God,” I said. “I can’t believe we did that.”
“I know. Me either.”
“I think I pulled a muscle.”
“I think you bit me. Am I bleeding?”
I laughed. “No, but I hope you’re not seeing anyone. If you are, she’s going to wonder about all those scratches on your back.”
“I’m not seeing anyone.” He paused. “Are you?”
“No.”
Neither of us moved for several minutes. When I caught myself falling asleep, I sat up. “I should go.”
“Why? Just stay here.”
I looked down at him. “You want me to stay?”
“Yeah.” He opened his eyes. In the low light, they almost looked black instead of blue. “Spend the night with me.”
I waited for it—the dirty joke, the excuse, the subtle dig—the reason he’d toss out for asking me to stay. It couldn’t just be that he wanted me here.
But he didn’t say anything more. He just reached out and covered my hand with his.
I looked at our hands for a moment, and a thousand memories came rushing back. Some good, some bad, but all us. I felt close to him, and I didn’t want to leave. “Okay. I’ll stay.”
“Good.” He took off his watch and put it on the nightstand.

I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.Add to Goodreads

Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?
(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)
Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.
I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.
But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.Even if it means giving her up.
