Years ago, they were in love. She was an up-and-coming superstar and he was the devilishly handsome security professional hired to keep her safe. They fell hard and fast, no matter how they tried to resist one another. But not everyone around them was happy about their relationship, and a string of lies and deceit destroyed what they once had.

Having just taken the helm of a nationally renowned protective services company, Kynan McGrath is looking to rebrand and revamp his career. The newly crowned Jameson Force Security is moving from the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas to the mountainous steel town of Pittsburgh, and the last thing Kynan has time for is to deal with his past.

More than a decade has passed since their split, but even a bruised and battered heart remembers its first love. So when Joslyn Meyers comes to him for help, Kynan reluctantly agrees to keep her safe from a terrifying stalker who keeps threatening her life.

As the danger they face continues to intensify, Kynan realizes he’ll stop at nothing to protect the woman who turned her back on him all those years ago. Because one thing is certain—no matter how hard he tries to convince himself otherwise, Joslyn still has his heart.

This was my first introduction to Kynan McGrath as I did not read the Wicked Horse Vegas series or the novella Wicked Force, but it was not necessary to enjoy this new series starter for Jameson Force Security. But I imagine fans of him before, will be thrilled that he is getting his own second-chance love story.

Kynan is a British private security contractor who has just bought out his partner to take his security business in new directions...like more off the books government or black ops type work, as well as moving it from Vegas to Pittsburgh. As he is working on assembling his new team of talented and highly intelligent and motivated individuals, his past comes calling.

His former love and now famous mega star ex, Joslyn Meyers is in need of protection. And even though she broke his heart and left him without reason over a decade ago, the protective side of him cannot leave her in danger. But he is still angry, bitter, untrusting, and hurt, and he is determined to keep her at a distance. He is not the same man she left year ago and has become more jaded, cynical, and has acquired some different tastes.

Joslyn Meyers is terrified  and needs someone she can trust. And even though her reason for leaving him was based on a trust issue, she knows how serious he is about business and how good he is at protection. It is worth having to face her past in order to try to stay safe from a stalker. She has gone on to find success in all show business areas, but never really got over losing her first love.

Thus begins their story of  reconnection, baring truths, and having to rely on each other. Although their interactions are initially awkward and full of misconceptions, eventually the truth will have to come out and they will have to deal with all of their unresolved feelings. Sparks are flying as they are trying to lure out her stalker once and for all so that she can move on with her life. And suddenly keeping Joslyn safe has become the most important mission of his life and failure is not an option. But they are up against a formidable opponent.

This is fast-paced and suspenseful, but also has an emotional second-chance love story. I enjoyed getting their dual points of view.  It took me a bit to warm up to Kynan since his bitterness made him act like a jerk, but I ended up really liking him and them together.  I was drawn in quickly and it kept my attention.  I really liked Kynan's new assembled team. They are all interesting with intriguing back stories. I am looking forward to their stories.

Kynan McGrath is taking Jameson Security in a new direction, with a new name and a new set of operations. But as he is setting plans in motion to open a new branch of Jameson Force Security, he is reminded of a past he had tried to run from.

Joslyn Meyers is terrified for her safety and could only think of one place to go. Running to Vegas and Kynan is her last hope for protecting herself when the local police can’t get a lead on a very real threat. She wouldn’t have gone to him, shouldn’t have gone to him, based on their history, but she didn’t know where else to turn.

This is a fast paced, action packed second chance story. These characters are introduced in Wicked Force, but I hadn’t read it prior to Code Name: Genesis and didn’t feel like I was missing anything unusual for a second chance story. Enough of their back story is revealed as they work together in the present that the little details aren’t necessary.

As they navigate Kynan’s expansion plans amidst making plans for Joslyn’s safety, they find the feelings that swept them up so long ago hadn’t ever gone away. Their reconnection forces them to face the events of their past that split them apart and find the truth behind what they thought they knew.

I enjoyed getting to know these and the other Jameson Security team characters and can’t wait for more from this series. Sawyer has proven that she is a versatile author, adding this action packed, suspenseful story to her line-up.
