A brand new romantic comedy from New York Times bestseller Tessa Bailey!

Georgette Castle’s family runs the best home renovation business in town, but she picked balloons instead of blueprints and they haven’t taken her seriously since. Frankly, she’s over it. Georgie loves planning children’s birthday parties and making people laugh, just not at her own expense. She’s determined to fix herself up into a Woman of the World... whatever that means.

Phase one: new framework for her business (a website from this decade, perhaps?)

Phase two: a gut-reno on her wardrobe (fyi, leggings are pants.)

Phase three: updates to her exterior (do people still wax?)

Phase four: put herself on the market (and stop crushing on Travis Ford!)

Living her best life means facing the truth: Georgie hasn’t been on a date since, well, ever. Nobody’s asking the town clown out for a night of hot sex, that’s for sure. Maybe if people think she’s having a steamy love affair, they’ll acknowledge she’s not just the “little sister” who paints faces for a living. And who better to help demolish that image than the resident sports star and tabloid favorite?

Travis Ford was major league baseball’s hottest rookie when an injury ended his career. Now he’s flipping houses to keep busy and trying to forget his glory days. But he can’t even cross the street without someone recapping his greatest hits. Or making a joke about his… bat. And then there's Georgie, his best friend’s sister, who is not a kid anymore. When she proposes a wild scheme—that they pretend to date, to shock her family and help him land a new job—he agrees. What’s the harm? It’s not like it’s real. But the girl Travis used to tease is now a funny, full-of-life woman and there’s nothing fake about how much he wants her...

Travis Ford is in a downward spiral. He has lost his pro baseball career due to injury and now the town golden boy is back home and wallowing in his own depression. His best friend's little sister Georgie Castle decides enough is enough and gives him a wake up call. She has crushed on him since her teens, but now she is determined to get him off his butt and to find a purpose. And for some reason, she is the only person that could motivate him to do so.

Georgie is the baby of the family that no one listens to you. She is used to being ignored and being the family cut up. She even made clowning around her career choice. But she can also be blunt, fierce, and has a wicked sense of humor.

It is a gradual and tentative process towards annoying each other to friends to unexpected attraction(at least new to him) to chemistry that is hard to ignore. He needs to rebuild his reputation and she needs people to see her as more than a kid. So when they hatch a scheme to fake date to help each other out, how hard could it be to keep it strictly platonic? And if they screw that up, then surely they should be able to have some fun and not grow feelings, right?

Travis is sure that he will never want a true relationship or a future with kids or a white picket fence, while Georgie wants it all. The more time they spend together, the more convoluted and complicated it gets. They might be the only person who truly sees the potential of the other, but they have a hard time feeling the worthiness in themselves. Georgie wants to prove to every one including him, that Travis is someone worthy of love. But he has his demons and does not really know what real love looks like. And Georgie has always felt unwanted and insecure, and never dreamed that being this close to Travis could ever be a real possibility. But what is fake? What is real? Can people really change?

This is not only a witty, sexy romance, but it also a story of personal growth and empowerment. A big part of the book involves some of the women starting to find their voices and stand up for themselves. And Travis's road from the top to the bottom and climbing up again is also an important theme. I liked both of the characters even when I wanted to smack a bit of sense into Travis at times. Poor guy really had some issues, but he could be really thoughtful and sweet too. Georgie is quirky, kind of innocent, but spunky. And this book it hot! These two have crazy chemistry. I loved them together. Her family and some friends round out the cast and they definitely add more humor and drama to the mix(I might have wanted to shake sense into them sometimes as well). One of the other couples will be the subject of the next book, and they definitely have some issues.

I received this book for free from Edelweiss/publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
