Aria Saint-James has planned the perfect getaway: sweatpants, takeout and two weeks alone with her sister and nephew. Nowhere on that list is wearing a low-cut dress and uncomfortable heels to attend a wedding where she knows neither the bride nor the groom. Toss in her nemesis, Brody Carmichael, and her road trip to Arizona is officially a bust.
But at least there is champagne.
She blames the bubbly for falling into bed with Brody that night. Enemy or no, the billionaire is irresistible in a tux. But after their one-night tryst, Aria has no choice but to cut her vacation short, returning home to escape his devilish smile, vowing never to see Brody again.
Except Aria gets a surprise a few weeks later—she’s pregnant. When he learns that she’s carrying his child, Brody offers Aria the chance of a lifetime. The catch? She has to live under his roof until the baby is born.
Either they’ll kill each other in nine months. Or discover love buried beneath their hate.
This continues the stories of six friends who ran away as teens and lived together in a junkyard until going their separate ways. But they have now found each other again and started a journey to return a refurbished Cadillac back to California, and are doing it is in shifts.
This is Aria's story. She is leaving Oregon to go on vacation to Arizona to spend time with her twin sister, Clara and nephew. What she is not happy about is to see that Clara's boss and next-door neighbor is still there and not away on business as planned.

Clara's boss, Broderick Carmichael and Aria just do not get along. Perhaps a little jealousy and competition for Clara's time and attention. Perhaps because he appears bossy and arrogant, and Aria is stubborn and outspoken. Or maybe it is the simmering sexual tension between them that they cover up with barbs and taunts. They usually try to avoid the other, but that is not working this time.
One favor for her sister has her spending an evening with Brody, and a bit of champagne and fun leads them to an unexpected encounter...and brings one little sweet complication.
Aria might be strong-willed and independent, but she knows it is best to pick up stakes and move to Arizona to be near her sister and Brody. But she is not going to make it easy. Brody is used to being in control, is incredibly generous, pushy, and protective. He just wants to make everything good for her and loves to buy expensive things, but she fights anything she sees as charity or taking away her independence and control. There is a lot of push and pull. They are living a fine line with a couple little white lies, some power struggles, preparing for an unexpected future, and trying to fight an attraction and feelings that are hard to deny.
This is a delightful, volatile, sexy, enemies-to-lovers story. I loved Aria and Brody's feisty and flirty banter. Even though they seemed like opposites, both of them had family issues that caused them to have fears, insecurities, and trust issues. And their personalities were similar in that they needed to be in control and put up walls to guard their hearts making their interactions challenging. But they have a really good reason to try to open up and try to find a way to make it work.
I am looking forward to the final book in this series, Dotted Lines. It will be about her twin sister, Clara taking to Caddy on its final leg of the journey and to find the only guy that was in their group, Karson.

This story continues the cross country journey started in Quarter Miles, but this is Aria’s tale. She leaves her home in Oregon to visit with her twin sister in Arizona. They may carry the bonds of twins, but Aria can’t stand Clara’s boss, so only visit when she knows he is away on vacation. Unfortunately, his plans change at the last minute and he is still home for her visit. Also not on her list of things to do during her vacation is to attend a wedding in her sister’s place. That wedding leads to a hot one night stand, that though pleasurable beyond belief, will never be repeated between the vowed enemies. Though Clara may find her boss agreeable, Aria has always found him too stiff, too formal, too perfect. But when she discovers she is pregnant after their night together, they will have to find a way to at least exist in the same sphere for the sake of the child.
I loved this unplanned pregnancy between enemies. Clara was always able to see the good in Broderick, but it took much more for Aria to be able to find common ground with her sister’s boss. Oh he is handsome, and rich, but those are two things that Aria has come to distrust. I loved watching her learn the intricacies to Broderick’s personality, and then to work on making him see that “Brody” can take care of the family business and have a little fun at the same time.
This is a true opposites attract, enemies to lovers. They do not simply solve all their problems by discovering the pregnancy. In fact, adding the pregnancy to the mix might have forced them into maintaining physical proximity for more than a few moments at time, but it also forced them to really learn about the other and work for something beyond themselves.
I was a little skeptical about how headstrong, independent Aria was going to maintain her personality in Arizona, but I also loved watching Brody discover what he could and could not do in order to help her prepare for their child. Each is so used to getting their own way that compromising and working together was a character shift for them both.
I have loved following the journey of this car, and the women who bonded during the time that it served as home. I cannot wait to see what is in store as Clara takes it on the final leg to Karson. I can only hope that he has found similar success and stability that the women he helped shelter as children have found as adults, but I also feel like this final leg of the journey might be the rockiest one yet.
The whirl of tires and the hum of an engine filled the air before she could answer. A shiny black Jaguar came down the driveway and my heart dropped.
No. That son of a bitch Brody Carmichael was going to ruin my vacation.
“He’s supposed to be gone.” If he dared encroach on my time with Clara, I’d sneak poison ivy into his bed.
“It’s not his fault.” Clara sighed, quick to defend her boss.
“Did his private plane not have enough spiced cashews for his liking? Surely he can afford jet fuel.”
The second-best part of this week, besides Clara and Gus, was Brody’s scheduled absence. Clara knew there was no love lost between me and her boss, so she’d suggested travel dates that coincided with his vacation.
Yet here he was, parking a car that likely cost more than all of my worldly possessions combined.
Brody parked behind the Cadillac and stepped out of his car, sliding the sunglasses off his face. He wore a navy suit tailored to perfection around his broad shoulders and long legs. In the years I’d known him, I’d never seen him in anything but a suit. Did he not own jeans?
“Brody!” August raced over, holding up a hand for a high five. “Aunt Aria is here. We’re gonna open my presents.”
“I see that.” Brody’s lips turned up in a smile. Barely.
If the man ever learned how to deliver one properly, actually show some teeth, he’d be devastating. Especially with the dark, trimmed beard he’d grown a few years ago. It gave him a sexy edge. Or it would have, if his perpetually sour mood wasn’t such a major turnoff.
He definitely, definitely didn’t turn me on. Oh no.
Broderick Carmichael was enemy number one.
