Brigs Ferry Bay is a small town that seems to be going through too rapid a change for its more conservative population. There is a gay club and several gay residents. And now a new family has moved to town to not only open a new bed and breakfast but also adding to the gay population. And that does not include the fact that the Sheriff is a deeply closeted gay man. 

Jaxson Bell is the Sheriff who gave up his love in High School rather than come out and face his father's wrath and town judgment, and he is still hiding. But he has regrets and is lonely. And the new B&B owner is setting off alarm bells for him and impacting his control.

Dante Kincaid was hoping to start a quieter, happier life for himself and his siblings by moving to a small town and leaving corporate life behind. But he did not anticipate the vandalism,  harassment, and threats his family is dealing with. He is cocky, pushy, and sarcastic, but also caring and protective. 

Jaxson and Dante spark from the first meeting and look like they may be enemies and that turned to perceived competition, but then boom their chemistry together just took on a mind of its own. Two alphas who like to top that usually like smaller men who prefer to bottom are quite a pair. They are combustible and lust drunk, and begin a secret, steamy affair. But the more time they spend together the more dangerous it becomes. Jaxson is still scared to come out and be his true self. And Dante has been hurt and has trust issues making him relationship averse. 

Is the Sheriff finally ready to reveal his secret and show his authentic self? If so, will Dante will be willing to risk his heart again? Will the Sheriff be able to make it safe for Dante and his family in their new home?

This is an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, small-town, long-time-coming-out story with mature, intense, bossy men. It also has mystery, threats, tension, and some drama. Both of the men have their issues, and there is a lot going on in the town adding to the challenges. My heart hurt for Dante and his family as they constantly seemed under attack, while Jax was stressed trying to find answers. 

The author painted a vivid picture of this whole town full of interesting characters with unique personalities and backstories, as well as a couple of others from outside. This small town definitely has plenty of LGBT characters that could possibly end up in other stories. And there are also some wonderful, sassy women side characters as well. They are all well developed and I enjoyed the dynamics between them.

The next book is Kian's Focus by Misty Walker about Jaxson's first love. And I am glad, Dante's younger brother, Callan, is also slated for a book and I hope I know who his hero might be. I would love to see more with the Sheriff's brother, Zak, or his vibrant friend, Cato, and even perhaps the other town newcomer, Rhett.
