A sexy, hilarious, emotional, new romance from New York Times bestselling author Emma Chase.

Connor Daniels never thought he’d be starting over at dating square one. His career as a successful doctor, and his three boys, are everything to him. It’s not exactly a setup conducive to a scorching social life—but he’s giving it a shot.

ER nurse Violet Robinson never intended for Connor to find out she’s had a crush on him forever. It was a dirty little secret only meant for her dirty dreams. Her heart trips every time he’s around—and so do her feet.

When Connor sees Violet coasting across the grocery store parking lot—and she falls on her face—he starts falling for the gorgeous, young nurse right back.

Dating can be tricky. And life can be beautiful and crazy and unpredictable. But when it gets real, you discover what matters most . . . and the one person you want loving you through it all.

GETTING REAL is perfect title for this book. It’s not flashy or over the top. It’s about two people who work together and have both been through difficult situations. Even though she’s thirty, she’s more mature because of her family history. He’s a bit older and a divorced father so he also has to prioritize his children.

It’s about seeing people in a new light when a situation presents itself. She’s always had a crush on him and in his presence usually becomes bumbling, clutzy, and awkward. He just never really let himself look at her more closely until there was a bit of a push and the circumstances were just right. But even then neither of them truly know how to navigate the dating world effectively. So they’re bound to have some shaky times.

Violet is so sweet, caring, and adorkable. Connor is charming, protective,  and a truly good guy, but does not actually have good game and sometimes gets advice from the wrong people.

And when you add in the fact that they have demanding careers, children in the mix, ex involvement, and a bit of an age difference then it’s just life. So this book is about how they manage the challenges and navigate communication. It’s an engaging, funny, sexy, single dad, workplace romance with a bit of matchmaking help. And there are some more serious situations that they have to deal with that have the potential to make them or break them.

It has several smile-inducing epilogues and also ties up more with their friends and family that we have met during this series.
ER doctor Connor has been divorced for 2 years, learning how to juggle single fatherhood with his demanding career. Violet hasn’t been in town for long, but she has had a crush on Connor since she met him. As a nurse in the ER, they work alongside each other often, but it isn’t until they are set up as dates to his brother’s wedding (to her friend) that the sparks begin to fly.

This was a good solid read. I enjoyed the play between them as their relationship developed, but there were a few times their communication skills threw me for a loop. But this was full of real life moments between two busy professionals. Add in raising teenagers and an ex in the wings and there was plenty of drama to keep things interesting.

I loved the more mature aspects of this age gap relationship. Parts of their communication I felt like were played up and possibly resulted from that gap, but the gap itself didn’t feel insurmountable because of a major detail about Violet’s past. It was nice to not be focused on the same issues that crop up in one’s 20s (except for that period of time where Connor was taking dating advice from his much younger brother), and the addition of fitting in with Connor’s boys added another element to the relationship.

This was a wonderful workplace, single dad romance with an age gap thrown in for good measure. The Daniels brothers are a hoot and Connor’s story continued the expectation I developed during Getting Played, but all the books in this series stand along perfectly. There’s only 1 single Daniels brother left and I hope he gets a story too -- based on his dating advice I’m pretty sure he needs a new playbook!
