Sometimes a book just hits your sweet spot and this one did for me. The characters are both just such likable, good guys and their connection is so strong and built not only on history but also just in general affection for each other. And their newfound chemistry as adults is on point.
Marlon and Reed were online teenage friends that were a lifeline as gay teens with no other gay friends. But after years of talking every day, they just lost touch as they got older. Fifteen years later they just happen to run into each other and reignite their friendship with an added bonus of sexual chemistry and friends with benefits.
Their story is a collection of meet-ups, travel experiences, and phone communication keeping their connection alive and their friendship such a strong influence in their lives. They push and challenge each other to follow their dreams and not be complacent. And all along they are comfortable in their friendship, excited about their physical connection, but not really seeing the big picture of what their potential as actual mates could be if they were ever in the same place long enough to try to develop it. They don’t want to get in each other's way of their careers and their goals. And they are just a little bit clueless and good at avoiding the mushy gushy feelings stuff. But all along you just know these guys were meant to be and you’re hoping that they find a way to get everything that they want in life and to be truly happy.
It’s a low angst, funny, heartwarming, steamy, swoony, second chance, friends-to-lovers, long-distance romance. I just adored these guys and their story.
Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
