I’ve never been romantic. Just ask my ex-wife.Since she broke up with me, I get my needs met any time I want, without putting my heart on the line. Exactly how I like it.
But when she is called overseas and leaves me with our child, my bachelor lifestyle ends faster than you can say, “Daddy, I want a pony.”
I need help.
Problem is, help’s come in the form of an incredibly hot nanny.
My employee.
Who is much younger than me.
And also … a guy.
I watch Scott care for my kid and can’t help feeling like he clicks into place in her life.
When he looks at me, though … I get an entirely different feeling. One that makes me long for things I can’t have.
Like him.
Unmanageable is a contemporary m/m age gap romance about a starry-eyed nanny who wants hot-air balloon rides and singing telegrams and a grumpy single dad who most definitely does not.
Scott: An outgoing man with a sweet disposition and romantic heart. He is impulsive and lives in a bit of a rose-colored dreamland where he sees the good in people and tries to avoid the bad stuff which has led to dire straights in his life and finances. He has been dumped again and is in need of a chance and a fresh start, but he is fun, charismatic, and easy to be around.
Luke: A divorced dad and work-a-holic who lives in New York. But he has come to Vermont temporarily to be the primary caregiver of his child while her mother is away. He is practical, serious, controlled, feels like a failure at love, and thinks romance is a myth. And he is feeling lost and overwhelmed trying to juggle work, home, and a child.
Scott comes into Luke's life both as a savior and a wrecking ball. He takes over the care of his daughter and home like it is the easiest thing in the world. But then the tempting manny begins to start breaking down Luke's walls and challenging him. They know they shouldn't...but want to anyway. Scott is bringing Luke back to living life outside of work and obligations and getting a fresh perspective. And Luke actually appreciates Scott's quirks and eccentric personality and makes him feel safer.
They are opposites in so many ways: grumpy/sunshine, practical/romantic, cautious/impulsive, wealthy/in debt, afraid/honest, and analyzer/avoider. But both feel like failures due to their past relationships and seem to be waiting for something to wrong while also worrying about the temporary aspect of their time together. Both have opportunities for growth and change, and I loved seeing how they challenged and encouraged each other toward living a better life. I could feel their honest enjoyment and wonder at how life can be different when there is someone around to build you up instead of pulling you down.
This is a sweet, fun, sexy, opposites-attract, forced proximity, small age gap, manny romance with just enough angst, and a precocious little girl in the middle of it all. I loved these two together. I enjoyed more with some of the previous characters from the True North World, especially Murph and Jason. I am now more interested in Luke's friend, Landon, and Ty so I need to pick up the next book.
