Christian
Being invited to my cousin’s wedding really shouldn’t be such a big deal except, oh yeah, I haven't seen my family for a decade.
My parents turned their backs on me and I’ve done everything since to become successful and show them what they lost. Only, it’s kinda hard to be a success when you’re a walking trainwreck.
So I’m going to fake it. Hire a guy with an online presence so impressive they’ll be desperate to welcome me back into the elitist fold, and roll into the wedding with the kind of confidence I’ve never felt a day in my life.
The plan’s a knockout.
Until my fake date cancels minutes before the ceremony.
Émile
One letter from my dearly departed grandfather, and suddenly I’m on a husband hunt.
He’s reworked his entire will so I’m set to inherit far more than I'm entitled to, and all because he’s asked me to use that money for “good”.
In order to get that inheritance, though, there’s one stipulation: marriage.
Even with his request, I’m tempted to stick to my original plan of getting as far from my wretched family as possible, and letting them fight it out.
But then I run into a tall drink of scattered mess outside of a wedding who’s in desperate need of a date, and the pieces click into place.
I help him, he helps me.
Marriage, money, then go our separate ways.
Easy.
Now all I have to do is stop myself from actually falling for the guy.
Christian Kilpatrick is need of a fake date to a family wedding to see if there is any chance of them welcoming him back into the fold. But his paid fake date just bailed. He is sweet, big-hearted, absent-minded, awkward, accident-prone, and a hot mess.
Emile Cromwell is just taking a few breaths of fresh air to avoid his own oppressive family at a will reading, and ends up right there when Christian needs help. He is wealthy, charming, confident, unfiltered, witty, and a smooth-talker.
A fake date that goes fairly successfully...at least for the two guys. One hot night and a bit of truth telling lead to a scheme to help each other further.
How hard could it be to pull of a husband hoax? Well...it might not be as easy as they hope. They have rules to keep things more professional...but will they be able to follow them when the temptation is real?
This is a quirky, witty, sweet, sexy, fake engagement, found family, life and love and other disasters kind of story. It makes you smile, swoon, and sometimes frustrated mostly from external interference. I really liked how patient and accepting Emile was with Christian and his insecurities and quirks. And Christian and his friends show Emile what true companionship and love can feel like. They are quite opposites, but work together in unexpected ways even if they do kind of go about things backwards. But there are plenty of challenges and family dynamics that could complicate everything.
Christian's roommates and Emile's sister, Elle, are all wonderful, fun, and interesting characters and add to the shenanigans. I am looking forward to seeing who will be next in the series.
