This is a story about two guys who really don’t think they want a relationship and certainly not love. They are absolutely sure of it, but sex is definitely on the table. One has more experience and one is wanting to try new things. But them coming together provides what they think will be a short-term way to safely explore some of their common desires.
Gunnar plays baseball for the San Francisco Dragons. He’s cocky, social, fun, outspoken, and called a showboat. But he also cares deeply for his friends and family and is very protective and generous. He’s newly exploring his bi side and he’s ready for some safe exploration, but he’s definitely not ready to settle down like his friends.
Rafe Rodman is an uber-rich British businessman who now runs a highly successful men’s underwear company. He’s brilliant, intense, and likes to be in control. He’s been hurt in the past and he doesn’t plan on letting that happen again. So he’s guarded, emotionally unavailable, and only willing to trial a one-night fling.
Bets, flirty and dirty exchanges, games, challenges, and power exchanges are built into their story. It's about desire and fantasies, but also trust, priorities, and having it all.
I really liked these two together. They seem very different, but at the same time they really do share some common desires. And they’re both very intuitive and can read the other's needs. They also both have very caring and protective personalities, but they show it in their own ways. Their biggest problem was their own limits and fears. There’s a lot of back-and-forth because of what they think they do or do not want, and they’re actually scared of what they really do want so it’s easier just to avoid it than to actually face it.
Gunnar loves to challenge Rafe and test boundaries. And even though Rafe likes to be the one in control that kind of throws him a little bit too. But he loves to find ways to test Gunnar as well. So there’s a great push and pull dynamic, power exchanges, passion, but there’s also this witty humor and dirty, flirty rapport. They say they do not need distractions and need to focus on work, but they become a bit obsessed as these uncontrollable and unwanted feelings start to drive them both crazy and they don’t want to admit them. So there’s this delicious tension between some hot scenes and also some emotional awakenings. It’s a passionate, cat-and-mouse, opposites-attract, small age-gap, lessons-in-seduction, M/M romance with just enough kink and a whole lot of heat, snark, banter, and heart.

This can be read as a standalone but I loved some of the cameos from some of our other players and agents from the LB Universe.
Gunnar is the third baseman for the Dragons. Rafe is a fashion mogul. At the same party, they share a steamy moment that has them wishing for more and has Gunnar posting a thirst trap to catch Rafe’s attention.
The chemistry sparks from there and as they spend time together, realize they can’t fight the attraction between them. But Rafe doesn’t do relationships and Gunnar is just starting to explore his bi side. Both traits make for some resistant characters and a lot of back and forth.
I loved these two together. They seem in some respects to be opposites, but in the very best ways. Though Gunnar isn’t experienced with men he knows what he wants, and Rafe is all for pushing boundaries for himself while protecting Gunnar’s image. Though they didn’t tease each other long, the build up of tension kept it so that even after they gave in the tension stayed high.
This was a flirty, spicy, chemistry filled story of testing limits, trusting instincts and going after what the heart wants. Once again, Lauren has written a story that keeps the pages moving with intense characters, dramatic situations, and a little bit of exhibition. This was an absolutely entertaining read!
