Release Blitz/Review Tour: Something Unexpected: Vi Keeland
When my grandmother found out she didn’t have long to live, she embarked on a crazy trip—jumping out of airplanes and scuba diving with sharks.
After I repeatedly voiced my concern, Gram blocked me—her own grandson—on text and social media, leaving me only her travel companion Eleanor’s number.
Eleanor started sending me pictures of Gram’s adventures. At first she seemed nice, but when I attempted to persuade her to talk some sense into her friend, she told me where I could stick my advice. After that, photos arrived with snarky comments, and Eleanor and I got into it on more than one occasion.
When I heard Gram’s upcoming plans were more dangerous than ever, I hopped on a plane.
Since I arrived late, I headed to the bar for a drink, figuring I’d surprise her in the morning.
To my delight, I met a gorgeous woman looking for a no-strings-attached night. Nora was just what I needed. She invited me back to her room, telling me to give her a ten-minute head start. But when I went to pay her bar tab, I realized how much she’d had to drink. As much as I wanted to ignore it, I couldn’t. So I stood Nora up.
I knew she’d be pissed, but I also knew I’d never see her again.
Except never came a little early. Namely, the next morning when I went to meet my grandmother and her evil-spinster friend. Because old Eleanor turned out to be young Nora from last night. And if I thought the woman disliked me before, that was nothing compared to how ticked-off she was now. Or how unhappy she was going to be that their party of two was about to become a party of
A man + his ailing grandma + her travel companion = shenanigans + something unexpected.
Beck Cross is arrogant, opinionated, bossy, intelligent, and successful. He is a workaholic and a single dad. But he is also protective of his grandma and worried because she is on an adrenaline-filled vacation with a new friend.
Nora Sutton is enjoying her time traveling and vlogging. She is strong-willed, caring, adventurous, and charitable. She is resistant to relationships and just wants to enjoy life. Grandma Louise is a sassy and like-minded travel companion and they are taking on any fun things they want to do.
Beck and Nora have this antagonistic banter and snappy verbal foreplay and some missed chances. But eventually, they give in to temptation. She is determined to keep feelings out of it and avoid complications. He is not sure what he really thinks about the whole situation, but between Nora and his grandma, his head is spinning. Poor Beck cannot control everything like he would like to. But I just adored him.
They find each other when they least expected it and the whole situation is a catalyst for introspection and change. They have to deal with some secrets and reality while also trying to manage surprises, challenges, and live life to the fullest. Beck, Nora, and Louise are all also stubborn and determined to do things their way so sometimes they are playing off each other and not accepting of the other's point of view. Louse cracked me up, and his brother, Jake, is often another source of comic relief.

It's a multi-layered story that is snarky, sweet, passionate, swoony, inspirational, emotional, and beautiful. But it makes you want to celebrate life and enjoy the journey. My heart was totally invested in this story from beginning to end.
Beck is protective of his grandmother, and when he learns she is traveling the world putting herself in risky situations, he hounds her until she blocks his number. She did leave him with her travel companion’s phone number for emergencies, but he still can’t believe she is being so reckless. The travel companion is equally reckless in his mind, more so because Eleanor is allowing his grandmother to put herself into danger at her advanced age. As the danger level ramps up, Beck hops on a plane to convince his grandmother to stop.
Nora is loving life, traveling around the world with her friend Louise and working on her blog - taking photos, recording stories, and working on her next book. When she meets a handsome man at the hotel bar, she thinks a night of fun will be just the thing. But he stands her up, only to show up at breakfast the next morning as Louise’s grandson.
I loved the banter between these two. They have different outlooks on life and what Louise should be able to do at her age and that just begins the sparks flying between them.
There is a lot going on in this story, and I loved how the different threads tied together throughout. Something about this story resonated with me and stuck with me for days after finishing.
I loved these two, but I also loved the side characters. Louise is a spitfire, and doesn’t let age or illness keep her down. She is adventurous and living her best life, even if her grandson keeps trying to be a stick in the mud about it. Beck’s brother also joined in the shenanigans, giving Beck a hard time and pushing him to have a little more fun.
