I love books where characters show growth and change. And this is truly a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, forgiveness, and healing especially for Jules. She has to find her backbone and deal with issues that have plagued her for years. But also Finn also has the chance to feel what true love and care feel like with someone that actually sees and appreciates him for just who he is. They just fit so well together on so many levels and I just adored them.

Jules is breaking new ground with a promotion at work that has her one step closer to her dream job, while also working in production as a new streaming show is developed. She has also decided it is time to try to move beyond the hurts caused by a college relationship that have followed her into adulthood. Filling in for a friend by playing piano at an exclusive club seems the perfect way to meet a man who can help her explore her darker desires.
Finn only recently discovered he was a father and is learning how to parent while also getting to know his son. He is also divorced, and ready to find the side of him he let go during his marriage. He used to regularly attend after-dark parties, and has decided that now is the time to jump back into that scene.
A chance encounter behind the anonymity of masks is all they were counting on. They were not anticipating meeting in their real lives, nor did they consider there might be a real spark behind the explosive physical chemistry they felt.
These two have more than just their own relationship to consider as they explore the chemistry between them. Finn and Jules’ father are close friends, training together and spending quite a bit of time together in leisure and business. Navigating their own relationship while also figuring out how to handle her father finding out added a good bit of drama to their tryst.
There is a lot of really great communication and play involved in this story. Finn and Jules each know what they want and aren’t afraid to ask for it. Jules may not have had much experience before, but she isn’t a shy person. She doesn’t regret that she is still a virgin, but is also ready to try opening up and trusting like she hasn’t since college. Finn had to keep part of his own interests hidden for several years, but now that he is single again, he isn’t going to compromise on the things that are important to him.
There were several layers to this story, and I loved exploring each one. From the masked strangers, to their real life connections, to the single dad, to confronting the past, there was a lot to love throughout this story. I loved the little (and bigger) cameos sprinkled throughout, as Lauren Blakely often does with favorite characters, but this book stands alone quite nicely.
