Abducted and taken to a remote cabin in Alaska, Frankie finds herself at the mercy of four feral men, each with his own dark secrets and twisted desires.

With nowhere to run, she must rely on her wits to survive the harsh winter, trapped with them.

As she delves into their mysterious pasts, she uncovers an insidious evil that feeds on loyalty and uses love as a weapon.

Nothing is as it seems.

In this desolate world where the monsters are as beautiful as they are cruel, trust is elusive. They torment her, protect her, and keep her in the dark.

But to have any chance of escape, they must stand together.

Or fall prey to the evil in the hills of shivers and shadows.

This book is really DARK, and has some pretty deep triggers.

I definitely recommend for the lovers of DARK PSYCHOLOGICAL ROMANCE.

I don't even know where to begin, as I'm still trying to process the words I just read. It's been a hot minute since I've stepped out of my comfort zone and dived into the world of depravity and pitch black.

HOSS (Hills of Shivers and Shadows) took me on a journey I wasn't anywhere close to expecting. I don't have many triggers, so I didn't read the two levels (general and more in depth) of warnings the author gave, just went in blind based off the synopsis. For my own personal enjoyment, I'm glad I did. If you like your books morally corrupt and taboo, I suggest you too go in blind. If you don't, trust me when I tell you, if you can't do demoralizing, immoral, perverse, and downright evil, this is not the book for you. Heed my warning above-PLEASE read the trigger warnings the author has provided. Deep in the backwoods of Alaska, four guys will take you to places you could never ever imagine. I promise, Hell would be a prettier place. The atrocities committed between these pages go beyond what the normal mind can comprehend and accept. It's what every true crime story is made of, and then some. Even your nightmares couldn't imagine this.

There is truly nothing I can say to prepare you for the heinousness ride you're about to take. Just know, nothing is off the table. Nothing is sacred. Godwin pulls out ALL of the stops. Don't go in comfortable because if you do, Godwin will rip that comfort out from under you right quick.

HOSS is an intense, graphic detailed train wreck I couldn't my eyes away from. It left me questioning my own morality and character. My own psyche. It left me on a crazy train of emotions, which ran off the tracks quickly. It had me questioning if I really just read that... Yes. Yes, I did. If the author really just went there... Yes. Yes, she did. It had me questioning how such a story could captivate me and keep me glued to the horrifying events unfolding. How could I find enjoyment in such darkness. It had me questioning if I need therapy.

All I can say is, to be in Pam Godwin's mind for just 5 minutes would be one hell of a wild ride.

On that note, thank you Ms. Godwin for creating this new obsession for me. And by obsession, I mean Kodiak. Lord. Have. Mercy. Let me say it again...LORD. HAVE. MERCY. I needed EVERYTHING Kody!! There was just something about him that hooked me from the moment he was introduced. I fell hard for his character. I connected the most with him. I think my heart may have short circuited a couple times during his scenes. The tears I shedded. The pain I felt. The fear I felt. The happiness I felt. All of these emotions were in overload, and had me on the edge of my seat, especially during two certain scenes.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy Leo and Wolf. Because I did. They too drew some strong emotions from me, but the connection just wasn't as strong. I liked them with Frankie, but I didn't yearn for their scenes with her, like I did with Kody.

Do know this book ends in a huge cliffy, one that will leave you gasping and on the edge for book 2. I NEED all the answers. Like what the fuck, Godwin?!! How could you do that to my heart?!! Absolutely NOT FAIR!!

Is it April 23rd yet?
New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author, Pam Godwin, lives in the Midwest with her husband, cats, retired greyhounds, and an old, foul-mouthed parrot. She traveled the world for seven years, attended three universities, married the vocalist of her favorite rock band, and retired from her quantitative analyst career in 2014 to write full-time.

Her interests veer toward the unconventional: bourbon, full-body tattoos, and tragic villains. Equally peculiar are her aversions to sleeping, eating meat, and dolls with blinking eyes.
