What happened to my predictable life?

I had a stable life as a fire captain in Seattle, married to one of my best friends and raising two awesome kids. Now, my kids are grown, and my marriage is toast. I'm solidly past forty and back in my tiny hometown of Mount Hope, Oregon, filling in as a firefighter. My future is one big question mark keeping me up at night.

Also keeping me up? The short-order cook at Honey's Hotcake Hut.

Denver might be close to my age, but we're total opposites. The former rock roadie runs from stability, never puts down roots, and lives for the moment. Point in case, we barely speak before he invites me into his shower.

I've never been with a man, but my fresh start has me trying all sorts of new things—including Denver’s shower.

Our future? Hopeless.

Denver doesn't do repeats, but I convince him to have a fling since we're both in Mount Hope short-term. The more time we spend together, the deeper our friendship and bond grows. Our time together outside of the bedroom, reveals a caring side to the grumpy cook. Even better, my sunshine-y optimism softens him like butter.

Should a fling give me these deep feelings? Nope.

Worse, the feelings are mutual. Big decisions loom for both our futures, and our time together grows short. I might have Denver's heart, but his trust is far harder to win. He's the answer to all my question marks, and I need him to believe in us. Can I convince him to give our love a chance?

UP ALL NIGHT features a grumpy/sunshine pairing for a forty-something firefighter on a path of self-discovery with an UP ALL NIGHT short-order cook. Contains loads of first-time feels with sexual awakening and exploration with a heaping helping of personal growth and deep connection for this opposites-attract couple.

Sean is a divorced firefighter and father to adult children who is now moving home to Mount Hope. He’s lived the life he thought he was supposed to live but now wants to be able to explore more sides of himself. He is also going from Captain to firefighter, helping his widowed friend with his children, and spending time with family. And he’s finding himself spending time at Honey’s Hotcake Hut, and visiting with the burly, handsome, overnight cook who he can't stop looking at.

Denver Rucker is a rolling stone. He’s never really had a place to call home or people to rely on so he’s been living the life of a nomad. He is gay and does not hide it. His past has left marks on him and he guards his heart and does not let himself care too much about anyone or make plans.

It’s supposed to be a one-night stand. But it’s also a night of bisexual awakening and exploration that Sean is determined to keep going. Denver knows it’s dangerous to get involved and risk getting hurt or hurting someone else. But their chemistry cannot be denied, and it turns into a fling and a lot of fun exploration.

But along the way, they’re dealing with their own self-doubt, and fear of loss and the future, bur also discovering what it’s like to have someone on your side that you’re also passionate with. And the temptation to keep it going is real. But Denver believes in signs and it seems like the signs are telling him it might be time to move on. He’s not sure if he should believe them, or do the opposite of what he would normally do and actually take a risk on investing in someone and a community.

I really liked these two together. Even though Denver is more worldly and experienced, Sean is now very sure about what he wants and not afraid to voice it. They’re able to challenge and give each other exactly what they need. But there’s a lot of fear and worry about loss, getting hurt, and not being good enough.

This is a grumpy-sunshine, opposites-attract, bi-awakening romance with matue heroes and centered around a small town, first responders, and a tightknit group of friends and family. I am already invested in the side characters especially Sean's best friends Eric, Jonas, and Tony, as well as some of Emergency personnel. I am already intrigued by the teaser epilogue for the next couple. The teenage kids also added some humor and drama.
