Kade and Hunter Caruthers.

Brothers. Twins.

My cousins.

In a way, they’re my family. Protective. Indulgent. My best friends. But there was something else there, too. That ever-present whisper that reminded me more as I got older that we didn’t actually share any blood.

They used to be inseparable. We all were, but not anymore. I don’t know why Hunter left or why he joined a rival team in Weston—that Rebel town across the river—to stand on the opposite side of the field from his brother, but Kade is out for blood now and Hunter has finally decided to engage.

Rivalry Week.

Parades. Parties. Pranks.

And the Prisoner Exchange.

Weston will send a hostage to our school, and they’re taking me. I’m Hunter’s for two weeks. In a dilapidated brownstone on a nearly abandoned street with almost no supervision.

Ten days in an enemy school. Fourteen nights in a town full of bullies with no curfews and no rules.

And Hunter has no intention of protecting his little cousin anymore.

The Pirates will come for me. How can they not? A Pirate never sits out on the fun.

But I never needed protection or rescue, because a Pirate never runs, either.

*Pirate Girls is a new adult romance suitable for ages 18+.
Forewarning: these are young adults "still considered teens." Therefore, if 18 year olds having on page sex isn't your cup of tea, this is not the book for you.

Any who...

Yes! Yes! Yes!! This is what I'm talking about. The chemistry....so fucking hot. This is the Pen Douglas I'm used to reading. Gosh, how I've missed your words and your worlds.

Dylan and Hunter are characters I had no investment in. They weren't on my radar. I honestly didn't think I would continue this series after I one starred Falls Boys (first book in the series). But it's Pen ( one of my top 3 favorite authors) so I had to at least give it a try. Never during reading the parents story did I yearn for Dylan or the twins stories. Seriously no interest for a younger generation series, outside of Quinn and Lucas.

But I'm so glad I decided to give this series a second chance, these two were a whole damn experience I didn't even know I needed in my life. I fell head over heels for Dylan and Hunter. And when Hunter fucked up I wanted to put my foot in his ass. And I was so so proud of him for owning up to it, quickly at that. I didn't even mind their insecurity.

Thank you, Ms. Douglas, for not drawing out the drama between them. Each time, it was there and done within a few pages. Thank you for small miracles and not using contrived drama to amp up the angst.

I loved how easy Dylan and Hunter felt, even in their off moments. I loved how tangible their love was. I loved how their chemistry, in and out of the bedroom, flew off the pages. I loved their friendship. I loved how they each were trying to find their independence and their self. I loved how they each grew individually, which made me root even harder for their HEA. I loved how they could challenge and keep up with each other, whether that be the softer moments, the more mischievous ones, or even the more angst filled ones as they found their footing within their new dynamics. They were perfectly matched, balancing the other out.

I know there is a huge huge huge debate on which twin Dylan should have ended up with, but in my humble opinion, Penelope Douglas got it right. So much so, it didn't take long for them to quickly become one of my favorite couples. I can't even begin to imagine her with Kade. I think he would of smothered her and dulled her light, where Hunter helps her be exactly who she needs to be, and allows her to SHINE BRIGHT, while still being so lovingly protective. He is absolutely her equal. Her soulmate.

Sigh. Dylan and Hunter owned me heart and soul.

Pirate Girls was a FAST, easy read. And that's saying a lot since it's an almost 600 page book. But I swear it didn't feel long at all. I read it in several hours, and lately it takes me weeks to finish a book. As I turned the last page, I yearned for more of this duo. I was sad to see it end.
