New York Times bestselling author, Sawyer Bennett, welcomes you to Bluegrass Empires, a sweeping series of sexy romance standalones. Set among the rolling hills of Kentucky horse farms and bourbon distilleries, these seductive tales are steeped in bloodline feuds that run deep and without forgiveness.

As the oldest of his siblings, Ethan Blackburn bears the weight of responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Blackburn Farms, the largest Saddlebred breeding and training facility in Kentucky. Serious, gruff and solely focused on the success of the family business, Ethan isn’t one to mince words or waste time on anything that doesn’t further his interests. But when his meticulous world is upended by a shadowed secret brought into the light, Ethan is sent into a tailspin.

Marcie DeLeon just navigated her way through a bitter divorce, now intent on reimagining her life as a single career woman. She’s not looking to revisit the burden of a relationship anytime soon but when Ethan turns to her for help, she can’t help but lend a sympathetic ear to the handsome and broody man.

Ethan and Marcie are strangers who find a common thread to weave them together, creating a bond neither were seeking but both are loathe to walk away from. When Ethan faces a high-stakes battle against his family’s bitter enemy, he knows without a doubt there is nothing he won’t do to win the fight. Ready to give of himself completely, Ethan prepares to face-off with his foe hoping that no matter what the outcome, Marcie will be by his side in the end.

The Feud: A Blackburn Novel is a friends to lovers novel within the Bluegrass Empires series. All books in the series can be enjoyed as standalones.

This begins a new series in Kentucky where two affluent enemy families will find themselves tied together.

Ethan Blackburn is the CEO of Blackburn Farms, the biggest breeding and training farm in the United States. He is a broody, intense, control freak who does not have time for much more than work.

Marcie is a divorced school Principal with trust and self-worth issues from her marriage. But she is also smart, sassy, empathetic, and lighthearted.

When an unexpected arrival completely changes Ethan and the Blackburns' lives, it will be an adjustment for them all. Ethan is at his wits end and his new acquaintance Marcie seems to be one of the few people that can make things better. As they navigate new and tenuous situations together he begins to find that maybe there is more to life than work and success. But that also brings fear that it could be taken away.

I got sucked into this story of family, feuds, surprises, and change. There is just enough drama and strife to make it interesting but overall it is an engaging read that I read in one sitting. I loved Ethanj beginning to realize more about priorities, love, family, and balance.  I am looking forward to more with Gabe Mardraggon and the other Blackburn siblings, Kat, Trey, and Wade(sister Abby was actually the heroine in Codename: Omega).

The first in a new series from Sawyer Bennett, The Feud is filled with family drama, strong heritage, and a whole new set of characters. The Blackburns and Mardraggons have been feuding for generations and each side has their own take on what sparked the feud all those years ago.

Ethan Blackburn shouldered the weight of running his family’s horse breeding and training operation. His entire focus is on the horses and his family. His neat and orderly, if busy, world is turned upside down when he learns a one night stand he had years ago resulted in a child he didn’t know about until the mother passed away. He has to learn how to parent quickly, while also navigating interacting with the Mardraggons, who happen to be the child’s family as well.

Marcie DeLeon is the principal at the local school, and has been a visitor at Blackburn Farms to watch her niece train. She has harbored a secret crush on Ethan, but isn’t keen to draw attention to herself at the barn. When he reaches out to ask for help in settling his daughter, she can’t help but step in and offer what support she is able.

I loved watching these two form a bond as they worked together to find a way to help Sophie. Neither were truly looking for a partner - Ethan was just hoping for some advice from an “expert” and Marcie was still working through things from her divorce. But their friendship blossomed and a small family unit formed.

I was able to listen to the audio for this book and loved the way the narrators voiced each character. Kitt Swann was a perfect match, especially as Marcie described her Kentucky accent and it sounded exactly as she described! Sean Masters was a perfect steady, strong voice for Ethan. The number of different accents required by both narrators really showed their talent!

There was a lot going on that added to the tension of the story, from the feud, to Sophie, and finding balance. There were plenty of characters to get to know, and while we meet more Blackburns, there is at least one Mardraggon that plays a pivotal role and I can’t wait to see again in future books.
A Mardraggon Novel
(Bluegrass Empires, Book #2)
Audiobook narrated by: Sean Masters and Kit Swann
Releasing July 23, 2024

The prince of his family’s Kentucky bourbon empire, Gabriel Mardraggon is a ruthless and cunning businessman. His sister’s death left Gabe’s parents anxious for him to wed and produce successors to the family fortune but marriage is the last thing he wants. After all, he’s the product of two people who always put money before love. Loyal to the family’s creed of winning at all costs, as well as their hatred of the Blackburns, Gabe will never accept peace between the dynasties.

Katherine Blackburn is Gabe’s polar opposite—carefree, lighthearted and completely mischievous. Kat works hard as a horse trainer but never hesitates to let her hair down and have a little fun. And lately that has included poking at Gabe and his buttoned-up ways, much to his irritation. Getting a rise out of the cold but gorgeous Mardraggon heir brings Kat unfettered joy, especially given their two families’ ugly history together.

When Gabe’s business dealings hurt Kat in a way he never imagined, his walls begin to crack and he makes it his mission to help her confront her demons, even though he’s the one who laid them at her door. Blackburns and Mardraggons are bitter enemies. Any type of relationship would be strictly forbidden. Gabe has to decide if he’s ready to alter the course of history or walk away from the only genuine thing he’s ever known.

The Forbidden: A Mardraggon Family Novel is an enemies to lovers novel within the Bluegrass Empires series. All books in the series can be enjoyed as standalones.
