Jack Kingston is known for his dominant playing skills on the ice, but off, he’s a down-to-earth guy who values a true connection over a meaningless hookup.

I love being a member of the Pittsburgh Titans, even if my teammates are constantly ribbing me about women who they claim are throwing themselves all over me. Could I go for the easy lay? Sure, but that’s not my style. I’m more of long-term kind of guy. Instead, I’m going to keep doing what I do best—killing it out on the ice. Everything else will fall into place…eventually.

That time comes sooner than expected, in the most unlikely of ways. At the rink to watch our goalie’s kids play Peewee hockey, I meet Willa Montreaux and somehow, by the end of that interaction, I’ve offered to help her coach the Ice Pups. Altruism or were there other intentions in that offer? A little of both, if I’m being honest.

As the time I spend with Willa increases, I am absolutely certain I want even more. She’s gorgeous, sure, but that’s superficial. Willa is also funny, loving, determined, and smart. SO smart. Doctor smart. Probably too intelligent for a jock like me, but that’s not going to stop me from shooting my shot.

Not looking for anything more than a fling and concerned that she’s too old for me, Willa doesn’t want to venture into anything serious. I’m willing to put in the work and give her the space she needs to come to terms with the fact that the connection we have is far more than physical. Willa and I are end game, but I’m willing to play into overtime if that’s what it takes to walk away with her by my side.

Jack Kingston is one of the newer players for the Titans and he’s happy to be part of the team and excited about their chances at a Cup. He’s blended well with his teammates, especially the new group. So when he goes to see Drake’s little boys play hockey, he ends up in the middle of a situation where a brand new pee-wee hockey coach is having some trouble with one of the overzealous parents.

Willa Montreaux is a busy doctor, but when her niece's peewee hockey coach quits, she’s the only one willing to take on the team. She’s a former figure skater but knows nothing about hockey, but she just can’t let her niece down. When the pro hockey player jumps in and offers to be her co-coach, she ends up taking him up on his offer.

He is younger at twenty-five and he’s hot, charming, charismatic, talented, and really good with the kids. She’s empathetic, sunny, smart, hard-working, and determined to make this a good season for the little team. Innocent get-to-know-you and hockey education dinners, transition into attraction and a more physical relationship. But she’s got her trust issues and hangups about their ages and their differences. He is not a hook-up kind of guy and is not afraid of a relationship, but he also has to focus on hockey. But sometimes the heart and the body want what they want. He will just have to convince her that he is prepared to win her heart.

This is a sweet. witty, sexy, reverse age gap, he falls first, supposed-to-only-be-a-fling turned romance. I adored King. He is so mature for his age, knows what he wants, and doesn’t want to play games other than on the ice. I really liked Willa too, and I could understand her reservations, but at the same time, I just wanted to yell at my Kindle for her to just take the support that this man was offering because she never had it from a man in her life. Overall, this is a low-angst story without a lot of surprises, but I enjoyed it. I love being back in this world with this team and I always enjoy spending time with these characters. There were teases to Penn and Rafferty's books and I am looking forward to those as well as North's story.

Willa is a newly divorced doctor and starting much of her life over. Her family is important to her and she spends as much time as she can with her sister and niece, going so far as to step in to coach her niece’s hockey team when the assigned coach quits. The only problem is that her ice experience is of the figure skating variety and she is out of her depths with hockey.

Jack Kingston is new to the TItans, but has been playing hockey for some time. He didn’t set out to coach a kids’ hockey team, but after the conversation he overheard between an overbearing parent and the coach trying to help the kids fall in love with the sport, he felt pulled to share his hockey knowledge. He knows he doesn’t have time to do it on his own, but he can step in as assistant and leave drills and plans for when he can’t be there.

As Willa and Jack work together on the Ice Pups’ season, they find themselves fighting an attraction and building a team together. A few restaurant meetings to make plans for the teams leads to banter and flirting and more. But though he is looking for a relationship, she isn’t sure she’s ready to jump into things again and there is that pesky age gap to contend with. She isn’t sure what she thinks about him being younger than she, and it will take effort for him to prove that he is not the love-em-and-leave-em type.

I listened to an audio copy and the narrators did a great job bringing these characters to life. Their performances gave an extra dimension to the story that I loved. I always love returning to the Titans world, whether it is audio or e-book because of the low-angst, smooth nature of these stories. The characters have a problem they have to overcome and they aren’t interested in playing games to figure things out even if the solution isn’t always obvious to them. It was so much fun seeing teammates and friends on the outskirts of the story, and I always look forward to more from Sawyer and her hockey teams!
