This series always just punches me in the gut and this was no exception. We go from a tragic situation in war to a soldier's recovery both physically and mentally.

Rhett finds himself recovering from injuries, unable to walk or care for himself. And now he is faced with starting a new life he was not prepared for. During a Medivac transit, his path crossed with his Angel of Mercy, Navarro Riggs, and they formed a connection that neither expected, but that kind of lingered in their minds. When their paths cross again, stateside Riggs is determined to help Rhett get back on his feet and find a way forward to a different future.

So we return to BALLS in Black Mountain with all the motley crew and Bitches with Stitches, and the other couples that we have met in the other books. Rhett likes to flirt and challenges Riggs to ignore any impropriety and tries to break down his resistance.  Riggs is a hard a$$ with a soft heart and also has the hots for Rhett.  But despite this connection and bond Rhett and Riggs feel, it’s complicated and Rhett has a lot of recovery to do. They can be smart and ethical or be brave and take a chance. 

This is an age gap, a bond forged in war, therapist and patient, wounded warrior, starting over story about loss, recovery, hope, found family, and finding new purpose. I loved Riggs and Rhett together. This is tragic and emotional, but it was not quite as heavy and did not destroy me as completely as the previous two books. But I love spending time in this universe and I am excited that there will be more coming because I am already invested in all of these characters.
