Griffin had to leave hockey behind almost twenty years ago when a serious injury cost him his sight in one eye. But he’s generally happy in his life as a single dad with a good job and a good set of friends. But now these old friends keep pestering him to join their rec hockey league, and he finally gives in and joins the Comebacks.
One night in a bar, he makes a connection with a younger guy, but that night didn’t end up how they hoped, and there was a bit of miscommunication. But now that guy has also joined the rec league on the opposing team, the Blades, and the miscommunication bleeds onto their new ice time. It turns into a rivalry and prank war and they try to outdo each other. But there’s also something deeper where they get under each other's skin and can’t stop thinking about each other.
Jack Gross seems to have lived Griffin's dream. He made it to the NHL, even if it was not for long. He is younger, talented, fun, cocky. Bur his facade hides the lost guy just looking for a purpose and trying to get his life together. And Griffin has not had any experience with men after coming out late in life.
Hockey players are superstitious, and when one new incident seems to give them good juju on the ice, it only makes sense to them to keep doing it...for their game of course. But the more time they spend together and get to know each other, it starts to turn into more.
This is a snarky and sexy, age gap, hockey, single dad, secret situationship with their rival. They both have things from their past to deal with in order to move on. They have things to teach each other and find themselves learning to enjoy life, hockey, and love.
This is the first full-length novel in this new Comebacks series, but there are plenty of cameos from Sourwood residents and more stories to tell.
