Hudson
Give me the smallest reason to make a bad decision, and I’ll jump in with both feet. Case in point: thinking that drunkenly buying an abandoned town with my brothers is a good idea.
As builders, we plan to renovate and flip the town, maybe turn it into something worth seeing, but the longer we’re here, the more things feel … off.
It’s not until a bearded mountain man breaks into my room in the middle of the night and threatens for us to get out of his town that I realize Wilde’s End isn’t as abandoned as we were told.
But there’s nothing waiting for me in the life I left behind, and in making his demands, Wilde has accidentally tapped into my competitive side.
Terrible decisions? Me?
Wilde can bring it on.

Wilde
I escaped to Wilde’s End twenty years ago, and since then I’ve dedicated my life to the town and the people who live there. Because if I focus on others, I don't have the time or energy to face everything I’ve been running from.
The Bellamy brothers coming to town is like three horsemen of the goddamn apocalypse. They leave destruction in their wake, and when the eldest, Hudson, ignores my very kind request to leave, it’s time to take things into my own hands. Protecting this town is all I know how to do.
But I’ve never faced someone like Hudson.
His stubbornness matches mine, and his attitude has an irritating way of worming under my skin. The more I push him, the harder he pushes back, until we’re locked in a game neither of us will walk away from.
With his smart mouth, bullheaded recklessness and those damn eyelashes I’m starting to question whether I can win this one.
But if I lose, this town isn’t the only thing on the line.

It’s fun, diving into a brand new world from a favorite author, especially when this is an off-the-grid area full of quirky and strong-willed characters with interesting dynamics.

When Hudson Bellamy talked his brothers into buying an isolated, dilapidated small town with the idea of flipping it and making money, he had no idea that he was also inheriting some unhappy townies.

Hudson is impulsive, reckless, competitive, reactive, and has a very short fuse. He struggles with self-worth and has been treated poorly. But this idea was mostly to get them all away from the city and to protect his brothers.

His twin brothers are complete opposites with Kennedy, being sunshine and love, while Hartwell is stormy, negative, and emotionally distant. But this project gives them an opportunity to be away from bad influences and work alongside each other.

Wilde has lived in the area for twenty years and sees himself as the Mayor of the town. He’s intimidating, strong, scarred, untrusting, emotionally unavailable, and protective. He’s also mysterious, with a lot of secrets that he has no intention of telling. He is all about control, and Hudson threatens that and brings chaos into his life.

These two are both stubborn, snarky, and antagonistic. But the  tension between them is thick. They push and challenge and aggressively flirt and taunt until things explode in a flurry of passion  and hate. They get under each other's skin and rile each other up.

This is an
unconventional, feisty, and passionate enemies-to-lovers, hate-fling-out-of-control in a small, isolated town with a sarcastic city boy and a grumpy, uncivilized man. I loved the push and pull between them and how their challenges make each other come alive. I liked seeing them slowly start to poke holes in each other's tough facades and push their own boundaries.

The whole setting and characters are very interesting, unique, and eccentric. They all have their issues and differences, but they’ve bonded in living this different life, and they all want to protect it. I am looking forward to the next couple. I love that their vibe and personalities are so different than Wilde and Hudson.
