Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Grumpy/Sarcastic Sunshine
Opposites Attract, Fish Out of Water, Small Town
Living in a treehouse? Unavoidable.
After a viral PR disaster torpedoes my marketing career, I flee Manhattan. The only place left to land? A fairy-tale treehouse in a pickle-obsessed Vermont town, left to me by an uncle I barely knew.
Yes, I said pickles.
No, I’m not okay.
But I’m only here temporarily. Just long enough to regroup, let the notoriety die down, and figure out my next steps in peace.
Unfortunately, my new neighbor has other ideas.
Beckett “the Axe” Axford–cranky local heartthrob and unapologetic tree-murderer–claims Uncle Jim made him promises about the forest around the treehouse, and he’s none too pleased when I won’t take his word for it.
Unfortunately for him, I’m done playing by other people’s rules. I’m not backing down just because some sexy–I mean grumpy–lumberjack says so, and I can handle whatever he dishes out.
Tree climbing? No problem.
Pickle festival popularity contest? Sign me up.
Kissing my unexpectedly-tender, flannel-clad nemesis in the woods after dark? I can take it, bro. And take it. And t– Ahem. You get the picture.
I’m tired of losing, so I’m not giving up my inheritance or my heart without a fight.
And if Beckett thinks differently, he can kiss my axe.
Griffin Mercer was a marketing media darling and on the day of his biggest break, his whole career and life in New York imploded. This viral humiliation sends him running to a recent lifeline of an inheritance of a house in a small Vermont town. The house turns out to be a quirky treehouse near a small town with nosy, even quirkier inhabitants.
And on the first day after a harrowing trip, his not-so-welcome-wagon comes in the form of a burly, cranky, local lumbersnack of a man trying to use his easement to move his trucks to the forest.
Beckett "The Axe" Axford is a broody, bossy, frustrated man just trying to run his family's lumber business, and this is just one more complication. And he is not known for being personable or friendly on a good day.
Griffin is done being pushed around, and Beckett is just trying to control everything. They immediately fuss and fight. They are both stubborn and competitive. They clash and spark and start hate-kissing and more. But along the way, they also push and challenge each other in ways they never expected.
This is a delightful, fiery, sweet, enemies-to-lovers, opposites-attract, city boy-small-town lumberjack, unexpected romance set in a town with plenty of fun, intrusive side characters. It's about finding your person, purpose, trust, found family, and home. I cannot wait for the next story in this series. And I loved Griffin and Beckett so much. I enjoyed seeing them start to drop their guards and connect. They just had me smiling and swooning. They were impossibly perfectly matched.
